Hello banders! I've had my band a little over 7 years now. No problems except a small leak in tubing but it was fixed easy. Just wondering if any of your docs do a barium swallow maybe yearly or so just to check things out??

No. I for one, have never had a barium swallow or fluoroscopy ever

For years and years.

Hope I'm not missing something.

I feel great and have maintained ( with a bounce range) the same loss for years.

Have most bandsters done this? I don't have any one to ask... The last support group meeting was all sleevers and two DS. I was the lone lap bander.

Thanks,

Jewels

My surgeon started using fluoroscopy for all band adjustments about 4 or so years ago, and I'm so thankful he did! He's got the machine right there in his office building. You can see so much by using it. I get a fluoro at least once a year and plan on continuing to do so for the rest of my life. I go more often than once a year still, even almost 6 years post op.

It's nice to just keep in touch, talk about upcoming events, longterm results, and look at all the successful pics on the walls. Reassuring and motivating to say the least!

Yes, I have to have a yearly swallow before I can see the Dr. I don't think it was always like that (I am 7.5 years out myself). And I have to have it done at an imaging center off site. Its only 1x a year so not a big deal. I think it's a good idea, to check on the health of the band. We are kind of old timers with the Band.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
