I'm pre op and browsing through the book my nutritionist gave me for my post op liquid phase during week 1 & 2. It says I should consume 8 cups/day of Fluid. 3 cups should be Protein shakes and 5 should be Water, crystal light, etc. How am I suppose to fit in 80g of Protein in 3 cups? That's like a scoop of powder per cup of liquid...wouldn't that be disgusting and really...gritty? and thick?

I feel like I'm missing something?

id take a picture of the page but my phone wont let me upload pix.

@@glitterpockets There are ways like...I would take a premier ready made shake, add 4 oz of Water to it and one scoop of Peanut Butter Syntrax Protein powder, bam 56 grams of protein! The ready made Isopure drinks have 40 grams of protein per bottle.

Why does it strictly say 3 cups of Protein and 5 of Water etc? Is there a limit?? I understand they want me to get in as much water as possible to stay hydrated but if I'm doing good on that why cant I stretch the protein out to 4 cups? Does it really matter?

@@glitterpockets That's what they WANT you to do minimum, if you can drink more fluids than that's wonderful, they aren't restricting your fluids they just want you to concentrate on getting the protein/fluids in and focus on that. Nobody would restrict you from fluids on a liquid diet. Unless you are in end renal failure...and your not ???? If It makes you feel more comfortable give them a call and clarify. ????

Every doctors instructions are different!!! Obviously listen to your surgeon! My doc said, 64oz of Water and 70 grams of Protein a day. So I combined the two, so as to not cram protein in liquid form, plus all that water on top of other protein liquids. There was just no way of get all that in!!!

The unflavored Protein powder was my saving grace at getting all my requirements in!!!

When I was on all liquids, I did 3 Premier Protein shakes. Your body can only truly absorb 30 grams of Protein in an hour, so drinking a shake with much more than 30, the protein is just going right through you. Some days I only did 2 shakes, and just more Water but that is still 60 grams of protein in those two shakes. This surgery is a lot about listening to your body, and figuring out what ratio will work right for you. Maybe splitting your protein up into 6 mini shakes will work for you, who knows! Just don't get sucked into giant protein bomb drinks, because your body won't absorb it all so it's just kind of a waste.

@@glitterpockets I didn't either until my 2 week post op appt and my NUT and surgeon were like "You know you don't need to try and cram all your Protein into one drink RIGHT?! It won't work anyway." I just looked at them like "NOW YOU TELL ME?!"

Also, this is kinda gross but make sure you take a softener like Miralax or Colase when you're on liquid Protein. The Liquid Protein is like concrete for your intestines. If you let it go too far, the outcome is very painful... Another tip I got from the forums that my Dr. didn't tell me!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
