4th day post op/any advice

Recommended Posts

I would love to know when people started feeling like themselves. I feel spacey. Having loose BMs, tmi, and doing my drinking, sip, sip, sip. I just want to feel normal again, besides the hunger and overeating of course. I will showe today, yesterday horrible headache, and get out and walk more, it has cooled off. In LA area and yesterday was so hot, especially after spending almost 3 days in hospital. Please send me some progress on yourselves, it helps.

I came home yesterday. Was in the hospital from Monday to Wednesday afternoon. I'm having pretty much the same experience you're having. Are you taking pain medication? Maybe the source of your spaciness. But also we've just had major surgery. Can also be the cause. And I have had no solid food for 2 weeks and only Water and ice chips yesterday. Moving helps, too. I hope you start to feel like yourself soon.

I'll be honest, I physically felt more like myself after about 3 weeks. Mentally, it took about a week.

I was in the exact same boat as you post-op. I wondered if/when I would ever feel "normal" again. It was the main question I asked and sought answers for on these forums.

I would say that I started feeling a little better once I was allowed soft foods at 18 days post-op. I was NOT feeling normal yet when I went back to work at 15 days post-op. I felt very fatigued all of the time at that point. By about a month out I was doing a lot better, but still struggling from time to time. Then once I was allowed solid foods, it was quite the learning experience to figure out what and how much I could eat. So it's baby steps back to "normal" or at least a new normal. There will be a lot of adapting and adjusting, both physically and emotionally. Hang in there! Patience is your best friend in these next few months!

Thanks guys for your input, t helps so much and makes me feel not alone. I only took 1 dose yesterday of tylenol with codeine, as that was really more for my headache. Now I am taking just liquid tylenol. I think, both physically and psychologically, I will feel better when I can eat something also. So much of my life centered around food, it still does, just less of it, and better choices, that's why we did this right. Of course I am on clears and Protein only. See doc next Wednesday. Thanks again, lets keep in touch. Just took my first shower since Monday, wow that made a difference, even put on some mascara. Good luck to all of us

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
