My nut said soda is ok after you recover from surgery but that it has to be flat. The carbonation will over time increase the size of your stomach.

False. Old wives tale. Especially with the sleeve.

I think that once you are healed up from the surgery, carbonation is probably okay if it doesn't cause you gas/discomfort. But like others have said, soda is terrible for you and we all conceivably got WLS to become healthier, so if you can use this opportunity to kick your soda habit, you will be just one step closer to your ultimate health goal.

I gave up diet soda 4 years ago, However I did get a carbonation machine. Drinking this Florida tap Water was just not possible for me without carbonation. During my 2nd of 6 pre surgery visits with the Surgeon we talked about Water and I asked him about the carbonated water. He said after surgery I couldn't drink it for 2 months so I better find a non carbonated water I can drink. After the 2nd month he said there would be no problem.

@@ssflbelle What about just getting a filter pitcher for your Water? My water is filtered through my fridge with a PUR filter, but I've used those pitchers in the past and they seem to do pretty well making tap water palatable. I recently say a commercial for Zero Water (I think?) that's even more filtered than PUR or Brita. Saw one at my costco and thought about getting it for my parents since their tap water is terrible, but I haven't actually tried it yet.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will have to check into this Zero Water. I had no idea this was available.

This is the thing I saw at costco. Don't remember off-hand how much it cost there, but I would imagine it was close to Amazon's price. One thing I though was kind of cool about it was that it included the little water testing meter thingy:

If you really don't like your tap Water you might want to consider investing in an RO unit for your drinking water. If you are interested, see if you have a local Culligan dealer.

Look I can survive without Coke Zero no problem after surgery. I've never had an addiction to it. The only reason I'm happy I can have it during pre op diet is because Coke Zero bloats me and I don't usually feel hungry for a while after I've had a can. I'm just scared I don't know how I'm going to survive this pre op diet restricting myself to such little calories when on any other day I can eat eat eat and still not be satisfied. Can't wait for the sleeve.

I'm with @@Inner Surfer Girl The more crap you get rid of on the front end the better. I don't know what is in the sodas but it was a rough couple of days weaning off of them. I would have hated to do it cold turkey in Mexico following surgery.

I am thinking about aiming for sleeve surgery next summer. It is very scary to me because I am worried about the major changes to what I eat and not being able get past head hunger. So one thing I am challenging myself to do is make changes now. I am in my 8th week without diet soda. I had a major addiction to diet coke/diet pepsi/diet dr pepper. I drank it from morning to night. I don't drink coffee. I have replaced the soda with iced Water and the occasional flavored water. Never thought I could do it. But I am doing it and I am, dare I say it, proud of myself.

Having said that follow your Dr and Nut.

You should be! That stuff is seriously addictive and hard to kick!

I am one month pre-op and giving up diet coke is probably the hardest thing I have had to deal with so far. But I'm working on it!

Congrats on kicking the diet pop habit. I am close to a week with no diet coke. Still having some headaches but I am confident I will never go back. I'm not a huge fan of flavored bottled Water so I am still looking for water add ins. Do you have any you recommend that would also be good post op?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
