Perhaps your mother is worried about you and surgery. Perhaps she's concerned you'll change as a person after losing weight. Who knows? This is life altering, and you need to reassure her you'll still love her and need her after you follow through getting your life and health in order. I hope you have a friend or family member who is supportive so you won't feel alone in your journey. This might be an issue you'll want to tell your doctor or psychologist and get their professional opinion. Meanwhile, stick with it and good luck!

I think there is a lot of misunderstanding about bariatric surgery in general. I found the idea of the sleeve to be very barbaric when I had my first consult. The permanence of it made it very scary for me as well. Maybe take your mom along for your next appointment? Best of luck to you.

@slvarltx- mom goes with me to all my pre-op and I talk to her and she knows many that had the sleeved I guess she is also nervous since the day is getting closer. Thank you for the support????

Maybe she is nervous, but greedy is a harsh word. I would have a deep conversation about why this is not about being greedy, but this is about utilizing what is available and becoming a healthier person and thus extending your life. I hope things get easier. I went through a similar situation with my husband for several months and within the last month he has become one of my biggest supporters, so there is hope :D **hugs**

@@ylluz - I almost did the lap-band for my adult daughter to eliminate her worries about forever changing my guts. I went with my "gut" and have the sleeve. WLS has to be all about your decision, your happiness, your life....

good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
