Karen Crawford Wright 20 Posted August 6, 2015 I am tolerating foods really well, no nausea or problems at all. Now I'm on week 4 and due to low blood pressure my doctor wants me to increase my salt intake (a lot). My husband constantly eats sunflower seeds so I'm wondering if they might hurt me this soon to eat a few...
Chele H 427 Posted August 6, 2015 Do you have a food plan and/or list from your surgeon? I had a specific list and meal plan spelled out for each week post op and if something wasn't on that list I did not eat it......for optimum weight loss, healing and safety reasons. If you are not sure....call your surgeon or nutritionist.
Karen Crawford Wright 20 Posted August 6, 2015 I do have a food plan and sunflower seeds are on week 5. I just wondered if it would hurt me but I'll just wait until next week. I thought it would help with my salt intake.
joatsaint 2,814 Posted August 6, 2015 I wouldn't eat sunflower seeds only because they are so small. It's very easy to swallow one whole. It might lodge in your staple line and cause irritation. I would suggest eating peanuts or pecans at this stage, since they require more chewing. Plus sunflower seeds are very high in calories. At 5 weeks, I was still on an 800 calorie diet. A small pack of sunflower seeds from a convenience store has about 280 calories - more than I was eating per meal.
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted August 6, 2015 Definitely check with your NUT. He or she may have a better suggestion.
