All I had to do was registration paperwork, urine sample for pregnancy test, a conversation about pre op diet compliance and post op etc. with bariatrice center rep, then short conversation with anesthesiologist. Pretty painless, but time consuming

Register and insurance info. Had blood work done. Nurse talked to me about where to go on the day of and what to expect and she gave me the antiseptic soap that I had to start washing with a few days before surgery. It was pretty easy. GL!

Pretty sure I had to give a urine sample also. Not sure about taking your last blood draw results. They will probably want to take it again though.

@@Cdominguez,

Try not to be nervous. It is really about getting you registered, getting current blood samples which they usually do again the day of surgery to check for infections, Iron count etc, urine samples and giving you info you need.

Good luck! I hope you have a safe surgery and speedy recovery.

I had urine sample, final blood draw, and abdominal ultrasound. The ultrasound was to check for gallstones. I would have had an EKG but I had one only 3 weeks prior. Since it was less than 1 month and they had the results that was good.

I was given my special soap to use the night before surgery. I was told no make-up, no nail polish on toes or fingers. I was given my bariatric bible with the pre-op and post op diet information. I had an appointment with the program's NUT. I used a different one I used for my 6 month pre-approval diet since I am an hour plus from my surgeon.

I got to meet one of the hospital internists that would monitor my non-surgical medical stuff like my blood pressure meds. They just took a history and did a brief physical.

Nothing scary.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
