Port concern

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone!

I have a question to ask.

For the past few days my port has been very sore.

Also when I drink something, the noise of the liquid going down is very loud on a left hand side where my port is located.

Can it be a sign that my port is disconnected?

Any help is appreciated.

The noise you are hearing is normal. Think of your pouch like a drain. When a drain is slow it gurgles so that is how our pouch reacts. It drains slow. LOL!!

The pain in your port could be related to any number of things. You could be experiencing this pain because of any recent weight loss and the port needs to reset itself again. It could be that you pulled it some doing a simple act of lifting a basket of clothes. Nothing to get worried about unless the pain worsens to the point of sharp stabbing pains. IF that happens go to your band doctor.

When you do go to your band doc next ask them to do a fluoro and look at positioning of the port or even a simple xray can determine the position of the port.

In the meantime, a heating pad and taking some liquid tylenol for the pain might alleviate some of the discomfort.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Penni.

It helps.

I thought I am going crazy with that noise.

It never happened so loud before and I have been banded almost a year now.

My primary doctor was across the examining room grabbing her stethescope to give me a little listen. She heard my pouch from across the room and yelled, "what the hell was that?"

Sorry if I confused you. I don't even have a port and my belly still grumbles. I'm the girl with no port! I had my original surgery 5/5/04, but the port incision never healed. The whole port area became infected, so 6/17 they removed the port. They gave me a fill first, so I still have the band, just no port.

Zhanna, what a cool name! There was another girl that had the same problem as me. They removed her port, but she healed real fast and got a new port. I am very thankful, I mean extremely thankful for the weight I've lost with no port. I'm very, very lucky considering all the problems I've had. I just hope I can keep it up. Thanks for your thoughts.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
