shellyd67 198 Posted August 5, 2015 My surgeon has prescribed blood thinners for me for 30 days post op. They are given by injection only. Anyone else doing/done these injections ?
Michelle Tarver 62 Posted August 5, 2015 I am not post op yest. My surgeon said I will get them in the hospital. Only people with a history of clot issues will get sent home with them. But every Sargon is diff rent Good Luck
Engteacher 158 Posted August 5, 2015 I had thinner injections when I had my surgery in June. I have Factor V Leiden and, although I've never had a blood clot, my surgeon ordered injections every 12 hours while I was hospitalized. It was no big deal. The shots were given in my belly. Not painful at all. I also had the inflatable leg pressure cuffs on at all times except when I was walking the halls. I didn't need shots after the second day, but they insisted that I be up and walking when I went home. Wow. 30 days. I'd ask more questions.
shellyd67 198 Posted August 5, 2015 @Engteacher I agree 30 days is a very long time ... I did speak with my surgeon and this is the policy. I too have never had a blood clot and would much rather be safe then sorry but I personally think 30 days is extreme.
teitei636 54 Posted August 5, 2015 I went home with a 30 day script, but at 1 week appt, doc took me off of them because I'm not at risk for clotting. It seems to just be a part of the routine.
Hello new me 153 Posted August 6, 2015 My doctor also requires the shots for 30 days! It is for all his patients, doesn't matter the risk for blood clots.
megmom757 113 Posted August 6, 2015 I took shots in the hospital and for seven days at home.
red37 116 Posted August 6, 2015 I had them in the hospital and the nurse taught me how to do them before I left. My dr requires ten days for everyone regardless of blood clotting history. It wasn't a big deal just a necessary step in the process.
