My Dr said I could move past clear liquids week2 but NUT said No

Recommended Posts

Went to my 1st post-op appointment with my surgeon on yesterday which was 7 days post surgery. Dr said I was doing well. No nausea, pretty much off my pain meds. He said I could try other foods rather than my Protein Drink and Clear Liquids. He stated purée foods and eggs would be fine. But when I stopped at my NUT he said I have one more week of liquid. Can't even have a Popsicle. He said maybe Jello. So disappointed. I know my booklet says 2 weeks of liquids post surgery, but does Dr instructions not trump that?

I don't know which surgery you had so I can't tell you what to do. However, for me and in my information, I had gastric bypass and was on pureed foods pretty quickly--probably before 7 days. In fact, I seem to recall that as soon as I got out of the hospital I was on pureed foods but I might be remembering wrong. I'm not sure what I would do. I'm really surprised taht you can't have a popsicle since that was considered clear liquid.

@@esskay77 I had bypass and the NUT said he discouraged Popsicles because it's cold. He said you have to treat the new stomach like a newborn who only gets milk for quite awhile. I'm going to follow the process even though I think the surgeon would probably know better.

I had bypass and my surgeon was out of town at first follow up so I saw her partner and she said I had to wait until day 15 to have pureed. Seems every doctor is different and it could be due to your individual circumstances. I think I would err on the side of caution and stick with liquids for another week if you can stand it. it won't hurt as long as you are getting in your Protein. I know that last week is tough. You might look at your booklet again and see if there are any more suggestions of what you can have this last week. Cream Soups? Yogurt? I had popsicles - a lot of them. The cold didn't bother me (luckily). I also (and don't judge me here) had pickle juice. It was great! :D I wanted the salt and it really helped plus it is used for hydration by some athletes, so I figured hydration couldn't be bad. Not much of it and not all day but it was a good salty taste for a break from the sweetness. Good luck! Hang in there. You are almost there!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
