What am I missing ?

Recommended Posts

Why are there so many folks that have excellent results yet no progress pics ?

I can understand if they've had the surgery and moved on and no longer post here.....but what about the folks that actively post and have listed remarkable weight loss stats since their surgery?

I came here looking for advice and techniques to best prepare for the surgery and life beyond. Turns out to have been a good move. This place is great. Many, many great advisors.....but some have me scratching my head.

What I mean.....is that it's easier to take advice from someone who's "been there and done that".

I wouldn't take golf advice from a hack that can't break 100.

Nor would I want to take bariatric advice from someone who's not been through it successfully. Advice from someone who's successful and thriving is what I'm hoping for.

It sure is easier to trust posts from someone who shows their actual progress results via pics.

Why wouldn't a person proudly display their 100+ pound loss progress ? Especially if they are dispensing advice to others ?

What am I missing here?

I am a private person and do not want my photos on the internet. And I did not tell many people about my surgery (so far, in fact, only one person knows). You'll also notice that most people post here under a pseudonym. But most people also post their stats -- weight lost, days/weeks/months since surgery. I tend to believe the stats I see people posting. Why is a photo better than the stats? I'm proud of the work I've done, proud of my weight loss so far (a week post-op) but see no reason to post photos if I don't feel comfortable doing so, nor do I expect anyone else to. We each have the right to choose for ourselves what to share.

Edit--To those who have shared their photos, you all look so awesome!

Hi Dub -

I didn't have my before and after posted because even though I was successful at losing the weight with the Lap Band, I had to have it removed due to erosion. It's now 4 years later and I have regained most of the weight. I am working on getting revision to VSG later this year. But I keep this picture around for inspiration - I WILL get there again!

Ditto on this! Except I still have my band.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
