lmhelmick 79 Posted August 5, 2015 When u do your carb count do u subtract the Fiber? Alot of times u need to up your carb intake because fiber cancels out a portion. So at 40 grams of carbs for the day, if u take in 15 grams of fiber u are really only taking in 25 carbs...

VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted August 5, 2015 I also don't count "net carbs," just "total carbs." That's the definition of "carbs" I used in my earlier posts in this thread.

Since I don't eat bread, rice or potatoes, the only carbs I eat are from dairy, fruit, veg, or Protein Shakes. From what I understand carbs are carbs (obviously I know there's a diff between complex and simple). Edited August 5, 2015 by MarceMonster
IcanMakeit 1,318 Posted August 6, 2015 Fiber is not used by the body for energy, that is why it can be subtracted from the carb count on a low carb diet. However, lots of low carbers count everything. It's a personal preference thing. I have always paid attention to the net carbs, even though all carbs are logged. I do think subtracting sugar alcohol carbs might not be the best practice. Sugar alcohols are metabolized differently by different people. To be on the safe side, I count them. lmhelmick 79 Posted August 6, 2015 Maybe that is the reason the original posters NUT says higher carbs... yogurt, dairy and protien shakes and bars all have fiber in them...which subtracts from carbs to "net carbs" just tossing an idea out there http://healthyeating.sfgate.com/subtract-dietary-fiber-carb-count-11020.html

lmhelmick 79 Posted August 6, 2015 But it all has good Protein too right Yes, but the subject is protein... it's carb managment. Get as many Proteins as possible throughout the day cause it's tough

I really don't know why she is suggesting 60-100g of carbs in a day. It seems like too much. I am just going to get a second opinion from my personal NUT who i still see monthly. I technically only had to see her during my preop, supervised, 6 month diet, but I think seeing her monthly keeps me on track so I continue to go. Liz5012 47 Posted August 6, 2015 I have never concerned myself with carbs, it is Protein and sugar. My bariatric plan dictates that no food should contain more than 13 grams of sugar and protein should be 80-100 grams a day. Protein is to be eaten first, vegetables second. lmhelmick 79 Posted August 6, 2015 I just need to eat my Proteins . And eat in general I have no hunger I'm the same way... it's so hard to force yourself to eat! I get the most food at one time with beef... i can eat about 2-2.5 oz of steak for lunch each day. dinner is always something small cause I'm still full feeling from lunch and Breakfast is a shake. I try to sneak a extra shake in throughout the day. I get about 45-50g at day and it's not enough. But between what I can eat and drinking Water there isn't anytime left in the day either lol
