Scooter Libby's Sentence Commuted

Recommended Posts

Frankly I found it extremely amusing that someone posted a list of Clinton's pardons to distract from the current events of the day. That always seems to be the response when Dubya does something blatantly gross. Yeah, that's right, blame it on Clinton... it's all his fault. Hilarious!

Fact is, all past presidents have given numerous pardons. If anyone took the time to read all of the information about the cases of those pardons, they might think again about whether they were proper or not. Scanning the Clinton pardon list only showed that the majority of them were probably not primarily as political as some that were given by previous presidents. There is a reason that the President of the U.S. has the ability to pardon convicted people. Just as someone said, mistakes are made and need to be rectified.

Too bad many conservatives do not understand that fact when they press for the death penalty so hard.

Often the blatantly political/cronyism pardons are left to be done until the president is about to leave office. It was surprising to a lot of people that this president just doesn't care what anyone thinks. Although I can't imagine why it would be surprising... he has proven time and time again that he's the "decider" and the rest of us be damned.

Nobody blamed Clinton. It was merely a point of comparison.

Ergo, Clinton's always right. Hilarious!

You really think you made an honest comparison? Oh my goodness! Why do we ever try to discuss anything? We are definitely on different wave lengths.

Obviously you do not think that Clinton is ever right - he's always left, right? And you think Bush is always right, right? And pointing out anything bad that you think Clinton did always makes Bush more right, right? It certainly absolves Bush of any wrongdoing, right? Otherwise why bother with the comparison?

Can't Bush's activities be discussed on their own merit or lack thereof? Why is it always a contest? Why never a real, down and dirty discussion of the immoral crap that Bush has pulled? Clinton has been discussed ad nauseum relating to his antics. They have little bearing on anything Bush is doing today.

Unless of course it is a contest of some sort. And in a contest there is no way we can compare apples to apples when discussing Clinton and Bush. Bush threatens our way of life, our freedom, our government, our soldiers, our environment, our economy, our life and liberty - but wait, not our pursuit of wealth! In fact, if you stop and think about it, there isn't a president in recent history with whom you can compare Bush's activities in office. The closest comparison would be with his father and the Iran Contra Affair.

But then that won't do, will it? You only like to talk down and dirty politics if we're talking about Clinton or other Democrats, right? That's ok, that's your perrogative, that's what R & R is all about. Go for it - I find it fascinating and a whole lotta fun.

I don't think Bush is always right. In fact, there are a whole bunch of things I disagree with him on. On the flip side, I've never heard you disagree with your golden-boy, Clinton.

I'm just cutting and pasting from an email (political newsletter) I received today. I don't really have any other comment:

Justice: Those who criticize President Bush's decision to commute Scooter Libby's 30-month prison sentence should remember: The punishment should fit the crime. And in this case, there wasn't one..

So, two wrongs make a right? Or if Clinton did it, it's OK for Bush? Yes, I realize the point of bringing up Clinton is to point out hypocrisy by those who weren't outraged by his actions, but are by Bush's. Which of course in turn points out the hypocrisy of those using the tactic and who aren't outraged by Bush. Since they were by Clinton.

My other point is, if no crime was commited and Libby was a victim of a witch hunt, why did Bush praise the jury and prosecuter for what they did in his statement? His only point seemed to be that he thought the jail time was excessive.

No, two wrongs do not make a right. But first one has to determine if one of the wrongs is indeed wrong. And I think in this case that is a matter of serious debate.

As to the hypocrisy of the liberals on this issue, I think THAT matter is quite clear. If it's not, click here: USDOJ: Office of the Pardon Attorney - Pardons Granted by President Clinton and here: USDOJ: Office of the Pardon Attorney - Commutations of Sentence and Remissions of Fine Granted by President Clinton

Actually, going back in history over pardons, lots of modern presidents on both sides have questionable ones on record.

So, are you as outraged over what Bush did as you are what Clinton did?

Well, could that be because he's not president now, and making decisions that affect us all?

I believe she was just pointing out a clear case of the pot calling the kettle black.

(The preceding sentence was not intended in any way to be racist or derogatory to any race or culture. Attempts to claim it as such will be met with the prompt labeling of offending poster(s) as an Assmonkey by myself.)

(By the way,

Assmonkey: best defined as any disagreeable idiot who has successfully combined being an asshole with the brainpower of a monkey.

Similar to an Asshat, but multiplied by a factor 9.73.

Thank you that is all.)

So by your standard, Omarosa is an assmonkey.

I love it.

Who the hell is Omarosa?

To answer your Question; Nope, however I have had PC Assmonkeys jump on me over the saying of "Pot calling kettle black". Calling it racist and such, I simply was attempting to deflect such comments right off the bat as it were.

I work with someone from another country, and she has problems with our idioms.... when she tries to say things like the above, it comes out as: "That's like calling the pot 'kettle'!" Of course, she also says things like "She blew up on the handle" and "You're opening up a can of fire".... We laugh ALOT at my office!!

She was on the first season (I think the first) of "The Apprentice". She was a real piece of work. One of the other contestants made the comment about the pot calling the kettle black and she jumped on her with a tirade of "what did you just say about black people". One of our major morning radio shows here in Detroit uses a drop of her saying that constantly so anytime I hear that statement it always makes me think of her.

NBC.com > The Apprentice > Contestants > Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth

For anyone who could possibly care, let's set the record straight: Clinton is NOT my "golden boy." I can't imagine anyone saying that to me. The reason I say what I do is because when anyone brings up something that Pres Bush does that is atrocious, at least one or more people toss out something that Clinton did so as to make Bush pale in comparison. It is so RUSH LIMBAUGH - I'm sure it's in the Rush Limbaugh Handbook of Ways to Redirect An Uncomfortable Discussion About a Right Wing Politician. Or is it in Anne Coulter's Handbook of Ways To Inflame and Misdirect? Both I guess.

I see comparisons as an effective way to put something into perspective. It is used by almost everyone in R & R, and also in news reports, on talk radio, etc.....on both sides. I disagree that it is to make something Bush did "pale in comparison". No one here thinks that Bush is perfect or has done nothing wrong. But sometimes the inflammatory statements about how terrible everything he does is forces those of us who remember our recent history to remind others that ALL presidents do things that we disagree with. I personally think Clinton was an embarrassment; you think Bush is. That does not mean that I think Bush is a perfect president and hopefully that doesn't mean you think Clinton was. But if someone is horrified by something a president does, it is helpful to hear how other presidents handled a similiar situation in order to put it into its proper perspective. And I can guarantee that if a Democrat gets into the White House and does something that appears wrong or dispicable, those of you on the left will bring up Bush's failings again and again and again..... :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
