alex10 0 Posted July 3, 2007 I'm wondering if it's feasible to have lapband surgery without telling my co-workers. I'm tentatively scheduled to have it 7/27, and I would really prefer to keep it to myself for at least the first few months. Will it be obvious when I eat lunch with them as far as the way I'll eat? A group of us always eat together, and sometimes we bring in meals to share. I'd really appreciate anything anyone call tell me as to how I can keep this private. It's not really that I'm embarrassed, I just feel like they'd be watching every bite I eat, and I can do without the attention.
sjrgilman 0 Posted July 3, 2007 Hi alex10, It could come up when your on the full liquid stage. you drink Protein Drinks for lunch at least I did. But you can always say your trying them out. pureed Soups also When you get to pureeds you can eat a lot more but again its obvious. I would just take a walk and not be around others eating or go to your car and eat. I've done that too. Its a challenge but you can do it. Good Luck to you on your Journey. sj
edieparks 2 Posted July 3, 2007 Tell them u r on a "cleansing" diet. When they want ALL the details, tell them you want to just concentrate on getting healthier and change the subject . Have a subject in mind . They should get the hint. I do not agree with keeping it a secret. I think it will lead to problems for you. edie
AuntEm 0 Posted July 3, 2007 I have told my family but few people at work. However, I am able to not have to eat with others which is a blessing. If people ask about my wt. I just say "eating less, walking more". Down the line when your band is tighter and you have the experience of not being able to eat at certain times of the day or with certain foods (which is different for all of us) it may be uncomfortable for you to be in a crowd, because those times are not predictable and can happen unexpectedly. If you can't change you work culture, meaning the lunch hour, then you are right all the attention will be on what you are eating;lossing etc. Good Luck, Aunt Em
juliegeraci 7 Posted July 3, 2007 Alex10, You will just eat smaller quantities. I think the most difficult part is the post op diet. You will have to be on liquids first then mushy then solid. That may be the most obvious part. Good luck.
socalgal3 4 Posted July 3, 2007 I never told anyone at work, but I only eat in the lunchroom on occasion, so it isn't so obvious. At first it will be hard, but once you are on solids, you can pretty much eat the same, just less. Best of luck to you.
