I'm about 5 weeks postop now, and having issues with vomiting. If I eat too fast I vomit. Sometimes I vomit my Protein Shakes or even Water. Dense Proteins (ie chicken, fish) don't sit well and it's sort of hit or miss if they stay down. I have had heartburn issues and just started Nexium instead of Prilosec. I'm getting 500-700 calories/day and getting 70+ grams of Protein. I vomit almost daily though, and even tonight after taking 20 minutes to eat 2.5 oz of turkey it all came back up. Is this somewhat normal? Cause for concern? I'm still waiting for word back from my surgeon's office...

I'm 5 weeks out as well... i would eat smaller portions and slower. 2.5 oz is alot right now. I'm barely getting 1-1.5 oz down. Even if u have to eat every 2-3 hours vs. 3 meals

@@rnsamantha I was doing that quit a bit, I went practically vegetarian for awhile but drank my Protein Shakes to keep Protein count high. meat is hit or miss with me too. I think chicken is the worst, and I'm a notorious fast eater, doomed! :) I'm not really sure what you could do since I'm In the same boat but do vegetarian for awhile....

I'm 10 months out and have had issues with vomiting since starting solids. My surgeon says it's likely to go away after a year or so.

With meat, I've noticed I have more issues if it's dry at all. I can only handle chicken breast if it's really moist. I store mine with Water so it doesn't dry out. If I eat too much or too fast, I also throw up. Also can't eat anything spicy or fried or anything too sweet. Don't really need those last two anyway but it would be nice to have spicy food, I miss it.

Thanks,

I think I'm just going to stay on my mushy foods longer and avoid meat for now. Fortunately dairy agrees with me, and I actually like my Premier Protein shakes so I can be vegetarian as long I still get to eat cheese and yogurt ????

I am 2 months post op and I really don't have the vomiting issue that much. Although I did have an issue when I was trying to eat a lobster taco, and after 3 bits it came back up. I am still new with the what I can, and cannot eat, but I never had a lobster taco until that day. Maybe it was the way the people made it.

I also don’t have the acid reflux or heartburn, but do have A LOT of burping after I eat or drink something.

It could be nothing. Or something.

For instance, it could be a stricture (your stomach has narrowed or twisted, making it hard for anything more solid to move from the top of your stomach to the bottom of your stomach).

I never vomited once post-op. So I don't think this is something you want to learn how to adapt yourself to. Get it looked at. And if it needs fixing, get it fixed.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
