tax claim....... being audited!

Can you claim the cost of the surgery if it's not done in Canada? Can you claim expenses associated with the fills too?

We are being audited too. Government just does not like to pay that money out. Oh well. Have to look for all the receipts.

As long as you have the receipts you won't have a problem. They love to collect but not pay out.

Just got my 'review' of my medical claim in the mail today!

Lucky for me, I have all the receipts set aside for just such an event!

Anyone know if you need to send the originals of the receipts?

Argon I would only if they ask - did you use an accountant or a tax firm? If not and they want originals I would photocopy everything and if they won't let you take them to the office, then send them registered. Good luck!

Hi Argon, photocopies should be fine. You are doing fabulous by the way. Diamonds seem to have an effect on you......

Sweet I haven't put a claim in yet as I had my surgery this April 07. From what I have heard it is about $3000. that you'll get back. Maybe someone who has claimed can let us both know.

How are you feeling by the way? Can you burp now and did you call TLBC?

I didn't have any fill done during my initial surgery. I was done at TLBC. Is that how Dr. Coburn does it. I'm glad you took the advise here and got that taken care of. You can always fall back on this site for sure.

Don't ask us, we are in the Canadian forum. Best to ask on a more american oriented part of LBT than the Canadian forum.

I was audited, I went through H&R block, revenue canada had me send in all the recipts to confirm, took an extra 8 weeks, but I did get approx 3000 back, because of claiming the surgery. If I could have split it up into a couple years I would have gotten more back but dangit, they wont let you.. oh well 3000 is better than nothing!

What can we claim? Air fare, hotel, cabs , fills etc? Has anyone tried to claim on their private insurance?

Thanks,

Neef

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
