I'm 62, Lower BMI, July 17th"s My Date

Recommended Posts

I've been told that lower BMI's (I'm 32) lose weight more slowly. Is that really true if you follow the program carefully? I'm getting banded in Mexico by Dr. Rumbaut and feel comfortable about the surgery. I'm concerned about the adjustment afterwards and hope whoever I go to up here - NYU or Dorre from Long Island for my fills - won't be incremental but will go for the "sweet spot" right away.

I'm nervous but excited and really hope this will curb my compulsive overeating. The last 2 weeks I have been stuffing my face! Looking for words of wisdom....

Greetings Reconciler:

Can't help you with your question about lower BMI's losing slower, but I hope someone else can answer that for you.

I did however, want to invite you to go to Monthly groups - select July 2007 - and look for the Lucky 7 thread and join us. Great support for those getting banded in July.

Pris

Hi Reconciler,

I'm glad to find someone nearer my age going for LapBand surgery. I am 65 and my surgery date is 7/18. My BMI was about 35, as I remember, so my Dr. didn't think my insurance company would approve because I'm not "morbidly" obese. But, they finally did based on my physical problems that are weight related and the length of time I have tried diet programs unsuccessfully.

I, too, prefer to keep my surgery between me and my husband. However, we belong to a close-knit church congregation and when I don't show for services for a couple of weeks, I am sure questions will be asked. I don't know what to say without lying, which I refuse to do. Can you think of anything?

Re your situation: Maybe you could tell your coworkers that you are starting a new physician-directed diet that will regulate the types and amounts of food that you eat and that you will need their encouragement not to overeat or eat things you aren't supposed to. Don't know if that will help or not.

Good Luck.

Thanks, MsPris, I did. TenGal, you must have me mixed up with someone else - I'm not concerned about what to tell people, although I'm not going to volunteer the information , but if they ask I will tell them the truth.

As far as what to tell your church friends, here are a few suggestions, without lying:

_ oh, I just had to be away for a bit. And leave it at that. If they ask more,

- I had to have a minor surgical procedure performed. In my experience if you say it the right way, you will not invite another follow-up question. If someone tells me that, I never follow up because I think if they wanted me to know, they would have told me.

- you might tell the people you're closest to the story and ask them to treat it as confidential.

- tell them the truth if they ask, but keep it short. I had a minor procedure my doctor recommended to help me with weight control. If they want to know more, tell them. You have nothing to be ashamed of!

There is a thread for lowere bmi'ers. I had the same question. My bmi is 35 or 36. Can't remember the thread title, but won't take you long to find it. It ahs some good info. Hopefully getting my band in Aug. How much do you want to lose. I'd be happy with 40, but would love 60. If I lost tyh 80 or so to get to the ideal bmi I think I'd feel like an alien! Good luck on the 17th!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
