Fears of Stretching

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else ever fear that they may have stretched the pouch above the band too much?

My weight has remained steady for the past few month, no loss, no gain. I have about 2.75cc's in my 4 cc band and I am not feeling much restriction in my portions of food. I keep having these terrible thoughts that I could have stretched my pouch too much and have ruined my entire surgery!!! Sometimes I feel like I could eat and eat and eat...and others I feel very restricted but will keep eating until I am sick. I obviously still need to control my eating habits.

Has anyone else felt this way? Have any comforting advice?

Thanks!

Hmmm, I just got filled to 2.9 from 2.6 and I can feel it now. But at 2.6 I could still eat quite a LOT, a whole sandwich in fact, which is quite unusual. It really is possible to have that much in your band and still not be properly restricted.

But I have gotten a handle on stopping at satisfied, I dont eat till I"m sick ever. So yes, you really do need to control that behaviour or you will be at risk of stretching your pouch.

Wow, I can't even eat a half piece of toast without it getting

stuck and I don't have alot of restriction, a whole sandwich is amazing...I wonder if it's because you've lost so much and have very little fat between your stomach and band???? Isn't it interesting how different we all are?

My doc said to me when he came in after the surgery that they'd gone with the smaller band becuase I had quite a small stomach, and not a huge amount of internal fat (well of course I had too much, I was obese but I carried most of it around my lower body), and he said I might find I needed more fill to get good restriction.

Small stomach? News to me, lol. I could certainly fit a lot in it. But I'm tall and fairly fine framed so maybe I do have smallish organs, I dont know.

But anyway, what he said has proven to be the case. Even at 2.9 I can feel restriction but can still eat bread and am far from tight. It doesnt matter to me, because I'm at a healthy weight now, but it certainly has caused me to wonder what on earth is wrong more than a few times because my experience is so different to the majority here. I never PB, I rarely get stuck, I havent had to give up ANY foods.

melissa- YES!

I have been paranoid for at least a month--thinking my band slipped, I stretched my esophogus into a pouch, etc.. because I have had NO restriction even after my 1st fill. Yesterday due to not being able to find the port, my doctor had to do fluero.. and so we got to see my stomach on the screen. I held my breath, just waiting to find out it's all messed up and my journey is over before it started.. I know how you feel!!

But there it was.. he said the angle is perfect, its working perfect, the stomach looks perfect.. WHEW. So it was all in my head and in the lack of fill. ;)

Hope that helps you, because before yesterday I've been so paranoid.

I'm at 2.5cc and today at lunch I think I ate less than usual.. Fingers crossed it lasts all day!

I think many of us fear this...but I don't think the Band would be approved by the FDA if it were easily slipped or it was so easy to stretch the pouch. I know it DOES happen with repeated abuse (and sometimes as a fluke) but it should withstand a few episodes of poor judgement ;)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
