treed 9 Posted August 3, 2015 Just curious has anyone tried eating before they were supposed to? Like start the puree when they were supposed to be in Clear Liquids or started solids before they ended the puree part? I'm 3 days before my puree diets starts but I can handle really soft foods already with no problem? I am not doing it but I tried because I like to learn the hard way lol
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted August 3, 2015 no, I followed my surgeon's plan for me
jane13 2,256 Posted August 3, 2015 I waited, but the pureed stage was much better than the liquids - I won't deny that at all. I SOOOOO badly craved a scrambled egg with cheese and it was divine when I did get it on the 3rd day post-op.
JamieLogical 8,710 Posted August 3, 2015 When it comes to stuff like food getting caught in the staple line, leaks, and ulcers, I decided "why risk it?" I followed my surgeon/nutritionist's guidelines to a T, because I did NOT want to put my health in jeopardy. Did I long for "real" food. Of course I did! But I longed for a smooth recovery even more. Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted August 3, 2015 I followed my plan and credit that with the ease of my recovery. When I had my first follow-up appointment the folks who seemed to have the most difficulty also seemed to be the ones who weren't following instructions. hockeyfan7 249 Posted August 3, 2015 Yes - I had scrambled eggs at day 8 and it was supposed to be day 10. My NUT told me that quite a few people do that. My surgeon's plan starts people on solid food between day 10 and day 14 depending on how they are doing. I haven't had any problems with any foods. I had steak and salad on day 12 and it was just fine.
JamieLogical 8,710 Posted August 3, 2015 I had steak and salad on day 12 and it was just fine. Wow! I'm 11 months post-op and I *still* can't eat salad. I can't eat any raw vegetables without EXTREME discomfort and gas. Have to stick to just cooked veggies. It's a little disappointing, but really, it just means more room for my protein!
