Expected recovery time for dual rny bypass and hiatal hernia repair

Recommended Posts

I'm curious about a dual procedure recovery time. I have a fairly large hernia to be repaired at the same time as the bypass. This is expected to be laparoscopic. Does anyone know if the recovery time would be the same as that for bypass only? Obviously everyone's pain tolerance and circumstances are different. I am trying to plan time off work from my desk job with no lifting what so ever. Thank you!

I have a hernia repair and am converting to RNY. I am planning on 4 weeks from what I have read. I was out 2 weeks with sleeve and it was plenty. My job was more active then. I now sit all day...

Wow your before and after picture is amazing! You should be so proud of yourself.

I should get my surgery date when I go next week to meet with the nutritionist and psych evaluation.

Good luck with your conversion!

6 weeks for both here. I needed to be released and to lift 75 pounds. Six weeks after going back I ended up popping an anchoring suture to my ventral hernia repair while moving a patient and had to wear an abdominal binder for the next 8 weeks. Wish I would have been told to wear one from the beginning, might have saved me a lot of pain. Good luck!

Did the doctor advise 6 weeks bass on your profession?

@SleevinChica, yes based on the weight I had to be cleared to lift by my employer. The surgeon had a tough time wrapping his head around the fact that I indeed lift that amount during a typical work day as a labor nurse, he asked me pre-op and at both appointments post-op if I "really" lift that amount. I wonder if he believed me if he would have recommended a longer recovery period and if I wouldn't have "popped" an anchoring suture?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
