joliet il. approved for lapband removal to sleeve but.want one surgery

Recommended Posts

I was approved to have my lapband removed. I had it done at Silver Cross in 2008. I want to revise to sleeve, approved as well. My physician Dr.Lahman only does it in 2 surgeries. I would really like to do it one less trauma, time off,cost,etc.. any one had this done in my area.

I think most doctors do it in 2 surgeries, because of issues with the band, they have to give your stomach time to recoup. The band creates scar tissue etc. You are more likely to have issues with your sleeve if you do it all at once.

Blythe

I'm in McHenry county, but used to live in DuPage county and worked at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. I've since retired, but my doctor there will be removing my band, doing a sleeve, and repairing a hernia in one surgery on September 2. I've seen posts of both one surgery and two surgeries, with no one complaining either way. I agree with you, I only wanted one surgery! My doctor is David Woodard, phone number is (630) 933-6745. CDH is now affiliated with Northwestern in Chicago. Dr. Woodard has been doing the sleeve for 10 years, and I'm glad I found him! Good luck in your search!

Oh yes, Dr. David Klem did my lap band, but Dr. Woodard specializes in the sleeve.

Call my doctor and see if he can recommend anyone at St.josephs. Just had my surgery 2 days ago. And he did all three things at once. Lap band out, haital hernia, and sleeve in one fell swoop. Feeling pretty good today! Only pain med has been Tylenol.

My doc said the only reason to do it in two operations is if there's too much scarring for his stapler to go thru. Dont want any leaks. Tested yesterday for leaks, I'm good to go!

Good luck to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
