I am new to the site and am thankful for all the advice for WLS. Here come the but...After reading all the positives and negatives, I am so nervous now to get the sleeve, even though I have been approved and just waiting for my psych evaluation to be completed to schedule surgery.

I have done WW and lost 60 pounds but gained it all back during my last pregnancy and move for my husband's job. Being an engineer, I was able to succeed on WW since I made it a game of counting points. I am ready to do that with the WLS, and understand all that comes with WLS - both my parents have had it done. But I am worried that I will gain the weight back and be a failure like I did previously on WW. I don't want to got through with this surgery if it means that I impacted my family in a negative way. (changing food habits, life style, etc) Did anyone else have this fear before surgery?

TIA for all your advice!

Yes is normal to be worried and nervous, but You have to remember that this is a tool to work with to help with the weightloss and keep in mind that everyones experience with the surgery is different is ok to read and take the good and the bad from others people experience but sometimes it makes us more nervous, also think of all the health problems with being overweight and you have children you want to be healthy. I am diabetic and is a daily struggle is depressing and a silent killer I rather take my chance and work hard with this tool than life with this disease the rest of my life plus I want children and I refuse to get pregnat with this disease and put the baby at risk!!!!..Good luck and if you have got this far go for it and God bless you!!!

I definitely had the same fears. Like just about everyone on these boards, I had successfully lost weight many things times before. But, as you have experienced, I always gained it back plus. I was so afraid that I would gain even more weight that I gave up on trying to lose weight altogether and it was a daily struggle just to maintain my weight.

It wasn't until my surgeon talked about the science of obesity and how WLS really works that I came to believe that with this surgery there was hope that I would not gain the weight back plus extra as had always happened before.

I truly believe that for me, the sleeve not only helps me lose a significant amount of weight, it also changes my hormones and gut chemistry enough to finally get off the roller coaster.

Continue to research and learn as much as you can and hopefully you will come to a place where you feel confident in your decision.

@@Inner Surfer Girl I am like you. I struggled to maintain my weight pre-surgery and that scared the carp out of me.
