Icandoalthingsthruchrist 9 Posted August 1, 2015 Ok. So I'm 12 days post op and have only dropped 10 pounds. Shouldn't I be losing more? I'm intaking about 550 calories or less per day. All my full liquids have been fat free or sugar free. And I've been very diligent about staying hydrated. I just thought I should be losing more weight. Any suggestions/comments? rora 24 Posted August 1, 2015 Sometimes low sugar and low fat foods up the carbs to compensate. Also it's normal to hit a stall in WL. Keep up with exercise, and avoid liquids 30 mins before and after food. liquid causes the food to pass through quicker. Try eating pure Protein foods like eggs too. Icandoalthingsthruchrist 9 Posted August 1, 2015 Yeah. I drink 30 minutes before and 1 hour after meals as well as walk 15-30 minutes per day. Thanks Rora.
Santiago Draco 73 Posted August 1, 2015 Water retention and to be honest unrealistic expectations. Why are you expecting extreme weight loss right out of surgery? Sure you will drop a lot but you are on a high hydration diet, probably not very active yet and really 1 lb a day or so is quite a bit.
xrayyoung22 16 Posted August 1, 2015 I was just going to say that...1 lb a day is a lot. That's 30 lbs a month. I'm 12 days post op and I've lost a pound a day and am very happy with that.
Icandoalthingsthruchrist 9 Posted August 1, 2015 To Santiago Draco and xrayyoung22, thanks for your motivation. But if 1 pound a day is the norm, I embrace that fact with enthusiasm.
cjnorris 103 Posted August 1, 2015 Don't let the scale have power over you in this journey. You will loss at all kind of rates. Sometimes the weight falls off and then there are times you will have a slow or no weight loss. Follow your plan and you will loss. Don't get discouraged. Babbs 14,681 Posted August 1, 2015 You're doing just great! How much we lose at first all depends on a lot of different things....starting weight (the lower the starting weight, the less lost at first) age, gender (males lose SO MUCH FASTER!) . Yeah, a pound a day is great for the first few weeks. But don't expect that rate of loss to continue. Expect a stall soon (the dreaded 3 week stall) and after that, the weight loss happens at a more "normal" rate (2-4 pounds a week). Just follow your plan, keep hydrated, move a little, and you should continue to lose at a fairly steady pace. Try not to compare yourself to others, either. Good luck and congrats! Icandoalthingsthruchrist 9 Posted August 1, 2015 Thanks For the insight Babbs. I appreciate it.
LipstickLady 25,682 Posted August 1, 2015 A pound a day is NOT normal. I never lost at that rate and I lost a great deal of weight fairly quickly, am 2+ years out and maintaining for over a year. Two-three pounds a WEEK is normal. Embrace your quick loss but don't get used to it. More importantly, do not mourn it when it stops and do NOT beat yourself up about it.You are doing great. You will be doing great when you "only" lose 10 pounds a month. You will be doing great if you "only" lose 5-8 pounds a month. Any loss is better than a gain and even a gain from day to day is normal.
Soapandcandlequeen 124 Posted August 3, 2015 I am averaging about a half pound a day. That is with stall a included. It always seems slower than it is.
mtraverse 327 Posted August 3, 2015 I try not to step on the scale too much but each week the weight loss is different! Def. NOT a pound a day or half a pound a day. It is 1-2.5 lbs per week! Which is keeping me happy enough!! So chin up and weight down!!! Woohoo
MarceMonster 161 Posted August 3, 2015 Just think even if you only lose 2 lbs a week, that adds up to 104 pounds a year!!!!
newbeginnings1965 48 Posted August 15, 2015 I feel the same I lost 10 pounds in the first 10 days and only three pounds over the last 8 it's frustrating when you only eating 600 calories a day and not losing much I'm trying to be patient like everyone says
