Good Morning,

I had my sleeved completed on July 27th, 2015 at around 7pm. All I remember is breathing in from oxygen mask then waking up trying to get out of bed. I was in pain not really the incision sites but a lot of pain within my stomach that was horrible!

The hospital stay was OK I slept most of the time. I am now on the clear liquid stage and let's just say it's the worst. I'm so hungry but I'm afraid to eat anything. The gas pains are ridiculous.

I wish I knew about the gas x strips bcz all I have is the gas x chewables that does help just a little bit. I just can't wait til I'm able to have pureed and soft food and hopefully the pain I receive when u get hungry goes away.

Any suggestions on how to get the daily Protein and liquids in during this stage?

Welcome to the losers bench.

Gas pain after surgery is very common. The best thing to do to get rid of the gas is to walk as much as possible.

As far as getting in your Protein and Water during the liquid stage the best advice I can give you based on my NUT's advice and what worked for me: sip, sip, and sip some more. Don't wait until you feel like it. Just keep sipping all day.

Thank you! I just hate the feeling of feeling everything once it goes down into the stomach that's what stops me from the constant sipping. Even though I know I have to I'm just scared of the pain

Everything is very tender at the moment but its so important to keep hydrated and get your Protein in to enable your body to heal. I am still finding it painful at times to drink, so when i get to that stage after 3 or 4 sips, I stop. Wait a minutes then get back to sipping. Having a very short break does help, for me at least!.

Have you tried different drinks? My surgeon suggested that I have a warm decaffeinated tea first thing in the morning as I wasn't tolerating cold or room temp Water first thing. It really has helped, it settles my stomach before I have my Protein shake for Breakfast. Just a thought.

I hope you feel better soon- it won't be forever !! :)

You're able to tolerate Protein shakes? I haven't tried. All I have tried is crystal light and sometimes with protein in it. I have had some Jello w protein but it took me 4 days to eat 4oz

GNC health food stores have it. My favorite is the red colored bottle, cherry I believe.

Hi there, I am 13 days out and can honestly say what you are going through is completely normal, although it doesn't make it easier to hear. Sip Water and sip some Protein Shakes all day long, rest and tomorrow and each day will get better!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
