Changes to Hormones and Metabolism after Sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hi All, I watched on a video, that said, after the surgery and your intial weight loss, your metabolism changes..... Your hunger returns...

HOLY CRAP BAT MAN !!

So is this true? There is supposedly some sort of rebound effect. You loose a bunch, gain "some" back then your new normal weight is set. This is really confusing.. I am still researching and am concerned about years from now...... Oh I can't imagine how happy I will be at a 100 lbs of weight loss, but if my body doesn't want to stay that size, and hormones and metabolism start sabotaging me...

What am I doing....I just WHACKED OFF 85% OF MY STOMACH - FOREVER !!!

Please help me understand..

If you read a lot of forums, not just this one, but several you get varying stories. Some people claim they are hungry from day 1, some people say their hunger returns in 2 years.

Everyone is different. There is a reason most doctors have you eat foods in stages, not just to heal but they are trying train you on the right way to eat. If you use the time when you don't have hunger to build healthy habits, when you do get hungry later you can make the right choices. salad greens have almost no calories for the large volume you can eat, so if later you make a choice like that when you are hungry, the sleeve and the learning to re-eat has done its job.

Ask your doctor what their opinion on this is.

My co worker is 3 years out and she is still at a weight she is comfortable you just have to be very diligent in your weight loss and your excercise like you are now. You see the people who are in shape? they eat however they want but then take their happy butts to the gym, If your not a avid gym rat then maybe consider a different activity like a zumba, spin, yoga or dance class. Hell start hiking places you will keep the weight off.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
