lifelessdreamer 1 Posted August 1, 2015 Hey Y'all! So I have been looking around on this site(and more) for 3 years. Looking at all these successful stories and think, yep its time, I can do this. Minutes, hours or days later I lack the confidence. I scary myself out of it. I convience myself that anything and everything that can go bad will go bad. Seriously wish I had the strength that everyone has had to move forward with his life changing procedure. I am my worst enemy at this point. Any of you had this problem and how did you overcome the fear?
Wray1 4 Posted August 1, 2015 I wish I had of had mine sooner. But everyone has to be ready to have it done. You should go to some group meetings And hear what others have to say about their surgery and ask all the questions you have on your mind.
Elode 8,093 Posted August 1, 2015 I second @Wray1. I wish I had done it sooner too. The happiness and the way I feel/look now completely outweighs any feelings of fear. You will see when the time comes.
Nylaj 45 Posted August 1, 2015 I been wanting this for years, but at my old job, the insurance we had didn't cover it. Now at my new job, they do cover it. I wanted this last year, but just didn't put much thought into it. After I stood in my cousins wedding in June 2015 & see how HUGE I actually was in the pictures, I said no more.. I am having surgery in September. I finally just told myself now or never.. Plus, I am turning 30 in 27 days. I want kids & I can't get pregnant until I lose all this weight. Plus, I want to watch my nieces/nephews grow up & I want to play with them. Make the decision that feels right for YOU.
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted August 1, 2015 Make a list of all the benefits and drawbacks of having surgery and the projected resulting weight loss. Make a list of all the benefits and drawbacks of not having the surgery. Do your research, talk to your PCP, attend a seminar (if you haven't done so already). Talk to a therapist or counselor. Only you can decide whether the surgery is right for you but the more knowledge you have, the easier it will be to make a solid decision. The answer you may come up with is yes, no, or not now. But, whatever you decide, make a plan to do something positive for yourself. The fact that you are spending so much time exploring the possibility tells me you know you need to make some sort of change. Change is hard. Maybe that is what you are afraid of? StephBtoo 28 Posted August 1, 2015 I agree with what Inner Surfer Girl said!! Lay out your pros and cons... not just with the surgery but what happens if you don't do something to change your weight. For me it came down to what WILL happen if I don't lose this excess weight (and I can't do it by myself and with just diet and exercise). The most I've ever lost dieting is 30 lbs and I need to lose 100 lbs. I have a fatty liver, high blood pressure, sleep aphnea, steps away from diabetes, and now a possible heart problem. I can't afford to NOT do something soon about my weight. I looked into this and thought about it 3 or 4 years ago, before I had these additional health problems, and boy do I wish NOW I'd done it then!!!
