pre op diet failure cheating

Recommended Posts

okay i am 22 yrs of age and today i cheated big time. I had 2 double cheeseburgers and 10 pc nugget i am so upset with myself I dont know what to do. I am on a 10 day full liquid diet this is the second time i cheated. The first time it was two thin crust chicken pizza slices. I have lost weight but my surgery is in 4 days and i wonder How this will effect my liver, will it shrink or nah? I just feel like a failure at this point any advice would help

At least you were able to do it all the way through almost, I feel terrible because I've cheated here and there and really wished I didn't I've still lost weight and since seeing my doctor I've lost about 38 pounds and apparently I did my liquid diet wrong too! I incorporated fruits into it so that my Protein meals didn't taste so bland and was told that I wasn't allowed to do that. I know one time I did a liquid diet for 10 days straight and I guess just the thought that I'm being told to do this as opposed to just doing it myself is a little hard I guess. My surgery is on August 4th so I'm right around the corner too!

I cheated twice pre-op as well. I Lost 15pds & all went well with my surgery. My doc told me my liver didn't shrink as much as he would have liked, but nonetheless, he was able to perform the surgery.

I had horrible pain the first couple of days, I can't help but think that maybe had I followed orders, the pain would have been less intense? Won't know for sure.

You can't change the past but try to make sure you get a good start to your future, from today forward behave & good luck!

i thnk the preop was the hardest part for me, i still cooked for my husband but did lots of crying!

i would assume as long as you are following the last 24-48 you should be fine, however a friend in my surgery class cheated quite a bit and her surgery lasted about 2 hours, while mine was less than an hour...so i think it does make a bit of a difference when they get in there.

remember as hard as it is right now, it does get easier and right now is the time to start making your brain shut up about food! i dont physically feel hungry but i sure do get head hunger, it starts to become more of a mental thing.

good luck on your surgery (all of you!) this is a changing thing in your life! take advantage of every second! and forget the hiccups...they arent going to last long.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
