brandeett 52 Posted July 31, 2015 I had my sleeve done 4 days ago. I was already back in the ER with severe, extremely painful spasms. I have never felt anything like this in my life. Also I have horrible bloating and pressure in my upper abdomen. I am MISERABLE. My doctor initially recommended the bypass (due to my GERD), but I changed my mind and got the sleeve (due to my severe IBS and wasn't too crazy on the re-routing). Did I make a mistake? Will this pressure and spasms ever end?

khaled 23 Posted July 31, 2015 If they are located in upper stomach then I had the same spasms. They subside by time. I am 9 days post up and barely feel them. My doctor says it is just a reaction to the new stomach plus the muscle is healing.
halfpintvsg 18 Posted July 31, 2015 I had same spasms or contraction sort of feeling. It def gets better. Hang in there.
brandeett 52 Posted August 1, 2015 (edited) They have me Bentyl but it's not helping. Even the pain medicine isn't helping. I mean the incision part is feeling better, it is the spasms that are killing me and feels like a severe belly ache. snowkitten 371 Posted August 2, 2015 Sounds alot like esophageal spasms. I had them really bad. Ask your pcp for nitro. It was the only thing that helped mine. I had mine at the beginning right after surgery and again after the flu. Apparently any time the sleeve is aggrivated I get it. I hope u feel better, I know how miserable it is! Oh before I forget, avoid really cold or hot fluids and spicy things. This can bring on an attack.
brandeett 52 Posted August 2, 2015 What do you mean by nitro? Thank you
snowkitten 371 Posted August 2, 2015 Nitroglycerin tablets. They give them to stop heart attacks but it also works for esophageal spasms. Sounds freaky right? I was weirded out by it but the pain was so miserable I was willing to try anything. It did work (most of the time... there were a few that it didn't resolve completely but it at least lessened it so I wasn't in tears).
