CPAP Machine. I have no love for it.

Recommended Posts

I had to go on CPAP to be approved for surgery. I used it for about a week postop, and then found that I would wake up about 3 hours after going to sleep and off came the mask, without really thinking about it. Haven't used it since. I don't think I have apnea anymore, though. When I get to the doc's goal weight, they will order a new sleep study. Hopefully that will be the end of it.

Any suggestions of what to do for nasal pillows that irritate and rub your nose? I always end up pulling it off during the night!

I started with nasal pillows? And I hated them. Switched to a mask that covered just my nose, and it was so much more comfortable!

I have never had any trouble but a respiratory therapist recommended Ayr gel applied inside your nostrils. You can get it over the counter. I got some at Walmart but never actually use it. You could also try increasing the humidity to see if that helps.

Switching to a full face mask did the trick for me. Resmed Mirage Quattro. The Cadillac of masks. Pricey but you get what you pay for. Can sleep in every possible position in bed. Love it. In my opinion the finest mask out there. If you can't tolerate a nasal mask, this might be your answer. Was for me.

Great ideas. I'll check into those. I've had to turn off my humidifier because of how much condensation is getting all over me! Even got a hose over and it didn't help. Nothing like waking up wet from your CPap!

One of the reasons I got my sleeve was due to apnea. I got my machine in April, used it solidly for two months and it worked great. Slept better than I had in years. I use a nasal-only mask because nasal pillow made the bottom of my nose sore. I can get an instant readout every morning on how many AHI events I average per hour. I went from 24 to 3 with the CPAP. I started struggling with the machine the night after my surgery. My tech called me after I uploaded my data last week to say that from June 29th my readings have drastically changed for the WORSE! I had my sleeve June 29th!!! I hate my CPAP now and take it off after 4-5 hours. WTH! I was hoping the surgery would cure the apnea. Maybe over time......

@@sleevenv I truly feel your pain. I didn't sleep all the great before the CPAP but it was better than I am sleeping now. I took it off three times last night. I just couldn't do it. I finally feel asleep good at about 4:45 but woke up again at 6:15. I missed the gym. I'm exhausted.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
