You didn't get any post-op diet instructions prior to your surgery? I've not seen/heard of a program that didn't give you dietary guidelines for your pre and post-op diets..... I could share my post-op diet plan with you, but every program is different, so if you got instructions from your surgeon, you should definitely follow those.

I know how you feel. I had a tumor and ended up with a partial gastric bypass to boot. I am 11 days out and kind of winging it. I asked the NUT how much I should be consuming. She and the surgeon both told me I will have to go by how my stomach feels because I have more stomach and a larger opening than most that have this surgery. I am at the moment on full liquid. I see the surgeon in 3 days, I am assuming I will move to soft food stage then...I hope.

So it sounds like you are on full liquids now? During my full liquids phase I was allowed strained creamed Soups, drinkable yogurt, and, most importantly, Protein Shakes. I would usually get in two ready-to-drink shakes a day, some of one pouch of drinkable yogurt, and maybe a half cup of Soup at lunch and dinner? I tried pretty much every single kind of cream soup my grocery store sold for variety.

dsheive, they also found Barrett's Esophagus while they were in there. Jamie, Yes that is pretty much what I am doing now. they sent me home with a little sheet that said Protein shakes and flavored Protein waters, creamed Soups, light fruited yogurt, lots of Water. Hoping pathology comes back good and I can strive forward. I saw my primary care yesterday and asked that he refer me to a dietitian at our little home town hospital. The hospital I had the surgery at is 80 miles a way, but our hospital here is one of their campus's. :)

My doctor doesn't want to give me the sleeve since I have Barrett's esophagus. He wants me to have the bypass. Those that had the sleeve with Barrett's do you have a lot of GERD or acid? I don't want the bypass and I don't know what to do. Help please.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
