Recommended Posts

Your welcome, and I got a better response than when I told my nurse she had an infection and needed to go see a doctor, she went and did have an infection so she told me thank you then told me I was smug and to kiss her butt...... I love healthcare professionals......lol

Nurses like thay have no place in the field!!

Honestly, for all my self-esteem and self-hatred i have, i never developed anorexia or bulimia, but my sister did. We are both over 30 now and i know she still has some issues with it, and being in the army and constantly exercising, has both helped and hindered her. I still think she's in the denial phase.

I say all this to tell you i do understand the thought process. I have been a self-mutilator since my late teens, and it's been several months since i've had a problem controlling the urge, but i know there are many things i need to work on. I say this because i know the surgery isn't going to make me happy or love myself. It might help me because i'll feel better and be able to do more of what i want, but it's the headgame that is the real obstacle.

You may not believe, but I will think of you when i'm praying. We all have struggles and that in no way makes us bad people and in your case, a bad mother. It's just something we are going through. And with a little encouragement, we can take another step towards healthy lives and minds.

I am just about 7 months out and down 64lbs.... this started because I ate too much once or twice and i made myself sick, then I was so afraid of stretching out my stomach that even if I ate just enough I still felt like I had to throw up and now its a compulsive thing, I feel like I have to do it constantly, and not when I eat everything but if I exceed my carb limits or whatever ill make myself puke to get them out.... I am very aware that this is a problem, but im a nurse and a mom and admitting that Im doing this to myself is terrifying, mostly because im terrified that if I stop my stomach will somehow stretch out. I don't typically binge although I have a time or 2.... Does anyone have any suggestions, I know I need help I guess im just looking for some reassurance that im not alone.

hey, I was thinking about you today and wanted to check up on you? How are you? Have you worked through some of this stuff? I hope you are in better spirits.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
