Basically eating questions

Recommended Posts

I'm almost a week post-op and I've been doing a little research. I don't now if I've done good or bad doing it. I'm just getting a little regretful. I am wondering if I will ever be able to eat like for example a Pasta or a hamburger again. I know that if I'm ever able to, its not going to be in a near future. I just want to know if it happens to everyone that they no longer eat chocolate or candies or a full meal. I'm just curious. I wasn't a compulsive eater but I did like my good meals.

I'm in my second stage of diet, pureed food. And I just want to have scrambled eggs, in my diet it neither says I can or I can not have them. When did you started having eggs? And real food in general. I'm already sick of Soups.

I did eggs during pureed stage...just added some milk and blend it in blender. It was so good. My experience is that I can't eat that much. I'm 2 months out and besides not being hungry I get full super fast. I promise it gets better. I was also so sick of Soups. I would blend anything I could get my hands on. As long as it was high Protein apple sauce consistency I would eat it. I loved refried Beans with salsa, guacamole and sour cream. I would measure the beans to 1/4 cup and add a tad of the other stuff. Delicious. Good luck!

P.S. I can eat part of a hamburger...no problems. :) I have avoided pastas only because of lack of nutritional value. I promise you'll start to feel more human. Not eating good food messes with your brain. It'll get better. Hang in!

I had scrambled eggs on day 8 and went to solids on day 10. That's my surgeon's plan. Today I had broiled lobster tail for lunch. Yesterday I had grilled ribeye steak. I've had filet mignon several days this month too. I'd much rather have lobster than Pasta. I can eat 1/2 a hamburger with no bun - I put it on Bibb lettuce leaves instead.

I don't like sweets any longer. I've tried them and ick. They don't taste good any longer. So since I know they don't taste good to me I don't want to eat them. Ice cream was the worst - it was AWFUL.

I ate eggs on day 7 and was on soft foods going forward. At week 5 I was on regular food. I also get full really fast and I also can eat a hamburger but only half. With only so much room for food I make smarter healthier choices to eat. I really have to make sure I get my Protein in and then there is little room for anything else. On the bright side I don't get hungry though so it isn't very hard to avoid the bad things.

I was eating eggs 2 weeks post op. After liquids for a month (2 weeks pre, 2 weeks post), it tasted so delicious.

I'm assuming you're on liquids right now (this is the toughest part of the whole journey, in my opinion). It is understandable that you are mourning the loss of more delicious foods. You're bored with what you're putting in your mouth right now. But trust me when you do get to start eating again, you're going to have a newfound appreciation for the simpler things.

You're forced to savor your food - eat slowly & chew a lot. Because of that, food will taste differently - in a better way! And as you quickly fill up, you'll be satisfied enough.

You'll be able to have a forkfull of twirled spaghetti or a couple of bites of a hamburger eventually. But balance is key. I'm almost 2 months out and haven't tried either. I'm sure they would taste good, but I am not seeking out foods like that right now - they're not the best choice for a reason.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
