Weight loss and, bowel movements a TMI thread****

Recommended Posts

SO, I hope i do not offend anyone's sensibilities, but a few people I know and help with this journey, have asked about this and it kind of clicked for me, especially recently.

Now since many many threads have talked about dealing with Constipation etc, this is far from that.

What I have noticed is that during a stall i will got 3 to 5 days without a BM. But when i am losing constantly, I have much more regular BM's Now obviously the joke " i took so big i poop i felt lighter" etc. seem to hold true to a degree. ( no i have never weighed before and after)

But i most certainly do notice that sustained weight loss seems to coincide with being..regular , shall we say.

So am I strange in this regard? ( just in this regard, I know I am strange overall, thank you)

What have your experiences been?

Not at all. One of the ways I know I am eating properly is that I have a good morning BM. I also noticed that I "go" more on my more active days.

Nope, I totally think you are onto something. Same thing happens to me. I think as the weight loss "moves along", so do other things ;)

It's all a balance of keeping everything running smoothly like a fat burning, poop going machine.

Generally I weigh myself each morning. I normally have a BM before I weigh myself. If I weigh myself before I have a BM, I weigh about a pound more than after a BM. During the day my weight can fluctuate around 2 pounds throughout the day.

I had my first BO post op on Tuesday this week and I swear to god after 45 minutes of straining, sweating and feeling faint, I thought I was going to pass out or throw up. I was so uncomfortable afterwards that I had to go to bed and take pain killers. Seven days out I'm drinking about 80oz of fluids a day, 60oz of which is Water. I am taking stool softeners morning and night. My DR has just said to up the Water but I really don't think I can at this stage.

I would appreciate any help!!

APOLOGIES: Just realised that this isn't about pooping, more about stalls, weight loss and pooping. That will teach me for being on the phone, watching the telly and reading here!! Please ignore the post lol

Something that's pretty disturbing to me now that I'm so thin is that I can visibly SEE when I am bloated. Like I can see my lower abdomen protruding. This always happens when I'm backed up and haven't had a BM in a couple of days. And I agree with you, it always seems to correlate with a stall on the scale.< /p>

My husband and both have the same thing. However, we have weighed before and after just to see what the difference is! On a related note, we've weighed before and after peeing, too. Pee weighs more than you think!

It makes sense if you think about it. An empty pastry bag weighs maybe half an ounce, right? As you scoop frosting into it, it weighs more and more. When you finally clip the corner and start squeezing out the frosting, it gets less full and "thinner".

The same logically applies to our bodies. As we scoop food in, we physically weigh more. When we don't poop, that excess waste is weighing us down until it decides to exit our bodies.

Simple biology, IM(non qualified)O.

I have noticed the same trend. Pooping daily makes a big difference in terms of loss. If I don't poop, I don't lose.

Same here! Only poop once every 3-4 days now which is actually a welcome thing considering I took Imodium EVERY DAY for 4 years before my surgery for chronic diarrhea. If I didn't, I couldn't leave the house. But yeah, definitely lose when I poop????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
