John Michaels 7 Posted July 30, 2015 Hey guys I'm having my sleeve done 21/08/2015 in Sydney, Australia. Just want to ask a question about your throat after surgery. Does your throat really hurt? Whenever I have a dry throat I always get an infection that follows with the flue. Just want to know.
BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted July 30, 2015 My throat didn't hurt after my sleeve surgery, but it has from others surgeries. It's a side effect of being intubated. After my sleeve I was fine. They also gave me ice chips and lots of fluids since they encourage you sipping so my throat was never dry.
Mrs. Reid 392 Posted July 30, 2015 My throat hurt really bad after surgery. Swallowing Water was impossible. I was hooked up to an IV so it didn't matter too much. It got a little better each day. After a week or so I didn't have any pain at all.
lauraellen80 855 Posted July 30, 2015 My throat was a little sore for a day or so after surgery from the intubation, but nothing major.
AvaFern 3,516 Posted July 30, 2015 I've had 4 surgeries- 2 of them I woke up feeling like my throat was on fire and 2 of them I was fine. As the others noted, it's just a side effect of intubation. The times I did wake up with a sore throat were both 6+ hour surgeries. The sleeve is about an hour so your throat doesn't dry out as much with the tube in it and you're less likely to have a sore throat. Of course you could have a rough intubation, which doesn't help much either. Either way, it heals in a few days.

The Candidate 3,215 Posted July 30, 2015 My throat didn't hurt from the anesthesia tube, but it was dry and scratchy from not being allowed Water for the first day.
