BCBS Alabama 3 years of records

Recommended Posts

I have BCBS Alabama and they require 3 years of medical records showing a BMI of 40 or higher for 2012, 2013, and 2014. For every visit, I have had a BMI of 40+ except for one visit in December 2014. Last December I had a bad case of pneumonia and mono. I was very sick for over 3 weeks and lost a lot of weight from not being able to eat much. When I saw my doctor during this time, my BMI had dropped to 36. Will insurance disqualify me for this one weight not being high enough, even though all my other visits qualify?

I've tried to contact the insurance person at the surgeon's office but I can't get her to call me back. Hopefully someone here has dealt with a similar experience.

Thanks everyone!

Hi Courtney Louise, I believe you and I have the same insurance. I have BCBSAL government employee plan and the only requirement of me was three years of weight history. Two questions: after your surgeon submitted to BCBS, how many days did It take for you to receive your approval?

My second question is for others here because it's similar to your question. My husband needs his weight for the last three years: however he never went to any php during 2015, but he went all previous years. How will the insurance do with approval without three consecutive years of weight of him needing approval for 2016 surgery but no 2015 weight? For the past five years, his BMI is well over 50 and he is 480 lbs.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
