Champ715 207 Posted July 30, 2015 I have BCBS Alabama and they require 3 years of medical records showing a BMI of 40 or higher for 2012, 2013, and 2014. For every visit, I have had a BMI of 40+ except for one visit in December 2014. Last December I had a bad case of pneumonia and mono. I was very sick for over 3 weeks and lost a lot of weight from not being able to eat much. When I saw my doctor during this time, my BMI had dropped to 36. Will insurance disqualify me for this one weight not being high enough, even though all my other visits qualify? I've tried to contact the insurance person at the surgeon's office but I can't get her to call me back. Hopefully someone here has dealt with a similar experience. Thanks everyone! Bree.83 0 Posted January 23, 2016 Hi Courtney Louise, I believe you and I have the same insurance. I have BCBSAL government employee plan and the only requirement of me was three years of weight history. Two questions: after your surgeon submitted to BCBS, how many days did It take for you to receive your approval? My second question is for others here because it's similar to your question. My husband needs his weight for the last three years: however he never went to any php during 2015, but he went all previous years. How will the insurance do with approval without three consecutive years of weight of him needing approval for 2016 surgery but no 2015 weight? For the past five years, his BMI is well over 50 and he is 480 lbs.
