Hey there!

I am two weeks out from a RNY revision. I lost an astounding 22 pounds the first week and just 5 this week. I know I am expecting too much but it was a shock to see the difference.

Here are my questions:

1. Is anyone else dealing with post-op nausea ONLY when they are sitting up (like in a desk chair)? I am fine when I am in my recliner but when I try to sit at my desk or attend a meeting, I am incredibly nauseous. I am drinking between 80-100 ounces of Water a day and getting my 60 gm of Protein in religiously. I am walking between 2.5 - 3 miles each day. Any thoughts?

2. After coming home from the hospital, the nutritionist advised me to eat 3 small meals each day (pureed foods). I did ok for about 3 days. Now I am finding that the thought of eating "real" food makes me sick. Foods that I did fine on right after surgery (shaved turkey, thin sliced cheese - things from the food list they gave me) make me so sick to my stomach that I can't even bear to try to eat them. I am back on just the Protein shakes recommended by my doctor and a little yogurt during the day. That doesn't bother me at all but I am curious why it changed so drastically.

Has anyone else experienced this?

it sounds almost like a stricture, although you're pretty early out. Hmm. I'd just call your surgeon's office in the morning and run it by them.

You are very early on and might have rushed eating things like shaved turkey and thin sliced cheese.

Many folks here were on Clear liquids only the first week, full liquids in week 2 and if that went well we advanced to puréed (strictly puréed) until we were post op for 4 weeks. If we did well on puréed at week 5 we were started on soft foods. Even this is aggressive and some folks have had to go back to the beginning and give their new tummy a rest.

Also, it is common to have something work one day and not the next but down the road it will be fine again.

I think your doctor made the right recommendation, just take it very slow and give your body time to adjust.

Your weight loss is incredible! Good job!

Thanks catwoman7 and Djmohr!

I was surprised when they sent me home from the hospital with a list of foods I should be eating (small meals throughout the day as long as I got in 60 gm Protein. I definitely feel better just on the Protein shakes although the nausea when I am sitting at my desk or standing for a bit is killing me. They're calling in a higher dose of nausea meds for me and I am hoping that helps some. I might have gone back to work a little early (OK - I admit, I did. One week out of surgery I went in for a half day for 3 of the days). Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Today I went to Walmart to pick up a few things. About halfway through I had to leave because I felt so light-headed/nauseous. Feeling better now that I am home although totally drained from my excursion. I am hoping to get my energy back soon. I understand it takes time. I am just impatient!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
