Once a wish, now done - what makes you proud

Recommended Posts

Just accomplished one of my major goals. When I began looking at having surgery, one of the things that was on my "bucket list" was to climb a mountain in Colorado. I made a pact with one of my buddies we would do it in 2015. At 305, that was a wish. Post surgery it was possible, and it was hard, and I'm still hurting (did you know you burn nearly 6000 calories when you climb and hike for 9 hours?).

We could not make the summit because of the wind, but we got close.

So, please share what was once a dream or wish, but now is possible and happening in your life...may it bless and inspire others.

I never in a million years would I thought I'd be a runner. I HATED running most of my life! Then about 5 months ago I started a C25K program, and fell in love with the idea of pushing myself to see how far I could go with it. This pic was today after running 3.5 miles. I was tired, and standing kind of funny, and I was like "what is that on my calf?"

Oh. It's a muscle ;)

I used to climb and trek and backpack -- seriously -- in the Sierras and the Himalayas. I haven't done any serious mountain stuff in 20 years.

It's time I got back. I don't have any treks or hikes to report yet. But I have the "old lady" trek left in me -- the Milford Track in New Zealand. It's one of those treks everyone saves until The End -- and we're old and gray. Just a five-day trip. But it's time to do it.

So I'm not reporting in yet, but am promising to do so in the next couple of years that it's checked off.

:)

And some other outdoor adventures still not done yet that I'll still do:

* Colorado River rafting trip (the whole shebang)

* English Lake District hike (8 days)

* Swiss Alps hut-hiking (5 days)

I can't wait to go horseback riding again! I rode and had horses up until about 8 years ago. Looking forward to a long trail ride in the Smoky Mountains.

Run a half marathon. I ran my first in May of this year and my second is coming up in November. Who knew that I'd become a runner!

I live in New Zealand and the Milford area is truly mind blowing... hope you achieve your dream :)

I want to take a second honeymoon on a cruise ship, but was always so nervous about wearing a bathing suit. It will be our 20 year anniversary this year and we are going to start saving and we are going on a cruise for our 25 year anniversary. Also running/jogging in a 5k. Doesn't sound like much but moving before was difficult so now I am excited to see me do this!!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
