One day at a time, one step at a time. It's really not that hard and if you're lucky not painful at all. My advice:

  • Talk to your doctor and nutritionist. I mean really have a back & forth discussion and ask questions. Make sure you understand and are okay with their instructions.
  • If you are physically able, start exercising now. I was taking Water aerobic for 3 years prior to WLS. I have arthritis in both knees so it was primarily to keep me mobile. I am certain that it helped make my recovery a lot easier.
  • Try to avoid the negative stories. This board is a tremendous help and source of support. However the folks who experienced complications and pain tend to be a louder voice than those of us who had a pain free experience. It's good to know what good happen, but it's also important to focus on the positive.
  • Lastly, and this is really important. DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS. There are many variables in how fast or slow a person loses. Comparing yourself to another is rarely a good idea. This is YOUR journey. Focus on listening and becoming in tune with your body.

Do you have to do 6.months of prep?

Not everyone does. Each program has different protocols based on how they are set up and insurance company requirements.

I have found this forum to be a blessing! It's nice to be able to talk to others who are going through or have gone through the same things you have.

Sounds like you are on your way with 30 pounds lost. Don't rely on this forum as your sole source of info. Most people here will be very helpful but some will throw out crazy advice from time to time. Ask how your Nutritionist likes to communicate. Mine prefers email and I email her when I need an answer and she is very prompt in responding. Keep an open line of communication with your surgeon and NUT.

Listen to @BLERDgirl. Those are very valid points!

Good luck and when in doubt as your team. If you need something maybe send a PM to a veteran on here. They have been there and done it...they even bought the silly t-shirt!

It's normal to be scared, I was, almost backed out at the last minute. But I honestly have to say now 6 months later it was the best thing I've ever done. Sure, your experience will be different from everyone else but this website is amazing and has helped me out several times just from reading other peoples stories. The first couple weeks after will suck, but once you get in the groove of it all you'll be awesome. Hang in there.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
