Advice needed: how do you take your Bariatric Advantage vitamins?

Recommended Posts

At almost 6 weeks out, I've been given the go-ahead to take all my necessary supplements. I tried several different multis, but finally settled on:

  • Bariatric Advantage Ultra Multi Formula with Iron

I'll need to take 3 capsules of the multi per day, along with 2 of the Calcium bites. I realize I'm not supposed to take them together.

How do you, or would you, space these Vitamins out? It seems a little tricky because I still eat multiple tiny meals per day.

Your advice is appreciated!

I do a Calcium chew as soon as I get up (6am)...2 hours later I take a multi(8am). I take a calcium chew at 5pm and another multi at 7pm. Twice a week I do sublingual B-12 and i do those at lunch. The main thing is to take the calcium 2 hours apart from the multi. Since you take 3 Multivitamins I would do Breakfast lunch and dinner or Breakfast, afternoon snack and bedtime. Do the calcium chews 2 hours before or after.

I spread all my Rx and Multivitamins apart by 2 or 2.5 hours.

Get one of those pill reminder things from your pharmacy. Mine has 4 slots with snap shut lids. Three for Calcium and one for the multi chewable. And I take the first multi chewable upon waking, with an omeprazole. Then the Calcium 2 hours later, and 2 or 2.5 hours I take another calcium chew, and so on. And I take my 2nd Omeprazole with my last pill section of the pill reminder thingy. Just space them out every 2 hours or so as Atontor states above. It's really not a big deal. Don't let that be your deal breaker. It is the greatest thing I have ever done for my health.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
