Hi all,

so I'm about 6 weeks post op and have lost a whopping 24 kilos so far (!). So no complaints there.

I am weighing myself with a Fitbit Aria, which I highly recommend to anybody. If you don't know what it is, check it out.

I have noticed that despite my weight loss, my body fat percentage (as taken daily by the Aria), remains always around the 30% mark (BMI 29 give or take). I work out at least twice a week (spin class), but I'm still very weak so I'm not doing "great" at the classes, but the bare minimum.

How can I lose weight but no body fat percentage? Am I really just burning muscle? That sucks.

Also, eating is still hard for me and I vomit often after dinner. Can't seem to grasp the eat-slow-wait-for-full-signal-chew-well mantra all that well, but I guess this will take time and discipline.

But do you have any insights on why my body fat won't go down? Thanks!

By the way, I forgot to say that my Aria says my body weight went up this week (!) by 2.2%. What gives?!

Have been eating healthy!

In my experience the Aria is not very effective at measuring body fat. I am well under the acceptable body weight for my size and according to my Aria, my BF% has barely changed and is significantly wrong compared to a professional measurement and my Tanita scale.

I have gotten to the point where I don't even use that part of the scale anymore and I only wait for my weight to be picked up because the BF% is so ridiculously wrong.

Hi, thanks. I have heard this before; how do you measure your BF then, and get a reliable result?

I agree, Aria is not very good at measuring BF. Mine goes as high as 44.7 down to 33 from day to day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
