hello, I am 5 1/2 months out. Started at 270 on Surgery date. I've lost to 215. My 3 month check up was May 18 and I had lost 44 lbs then. So, in 2 1/2 months I've only lost 11 lbs. My doctor expects me to have lost a total of 68 lbs when I return on Aug 14th. I am 13 lbs away from that. I do Water aerobics 2x a week and go to the gym or walk or Richard Simmons light aerobics 1x a week. I am getting all my water and Protein and about 1000 - 1100 calories per day. I had RNY on 2/16 and was slow even the first few months. I am worried that no matter what I do, I am not going to lose much more weight which terrifies me. Any advice on how to jump start this is appreciated. I always eat protein first then good veggies. I will each a few of the baked lays occasionally but i always count that in my food calories for the day. I do eat fruit, almost daily but if I dont I have a horrible time going to the bathroom. Thanks in advance.

If you drinking Protein shakes are you counting the calories of the shakes with your calories per day?

As your meal volume increases, you have the option of deriving more Protein from your meals and as a result you need less protein supplements (Protein Shakes and protein bars). Dropping some of the protein supplements can reduce you total calorie intake and start you losing again.

In my case I concentrated eating high protein chili and Soups. So at 1 cup per meal, I was consuming 65 grams of protein from my meals alone. So now I don't take any protein supplements any longer.

Thanks, James. I only drink one Protein shake a day and I do count it in my overall calories for the day. Thanks for your reply. :)

I try to walk every day, sometimes as little as 15 minutes, down the block or on the treadmill. But I do try to do something to keep moving everyday, for at least 30 minutes. The little bits of daily activity do pay off, and then you'll be able to do a lot more as time goes on.

It was important for me to start slow, and just do a little bit at a time at first, but always do something. I would sometimes go to the gym, ride the recumbent bike for 20 minutes, get a little sweat going and then just go home. But at least I did something. A little something everyday will pay dividends in the long term.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
