Appointments...appointments..appointments!

Recommended Posts

I am currently in the process of completing all of the required steps for insurance approval. I met with my surgeon for the first time on July 8th and I see him again on August 26th. Between then and now I have completed a psych eval, a nutritionist visit, a visit with my pcp to get the okay from him, and an egd (which I think is an endoscopy). I just have one more nutritionist appointment to complete, and I will have completed the process, so hopefully my insurance will approve and I'll be able to get the surgery on November 5th. It's so exciting, but feels so far away! Anyone out there waiting along with me?!

The appointments at times seem never ending, that is an absolute truth. You get through one set and then they give you more. But the time will pass by very fast, you'll be surprised! Good luck!

We are almost on the exact same schedule!!! I met with my surgeon for the first time on July 13. I see them again on August 20 and by then, I need to have completed one nutritionist appt, one psych evaluation, and have received a letter of medical necessity from my PCP. Then I have until October to get a cardiology clearance, pulmonogy clearance and a gastro clearance including an EGD! It's a CRAZY amount of appointments and I'm going crazy!! But, assuming I get it all done on time and get approval from my health insurance, my surgery is scheduled for November 4! I'm so excited!!!

Good luck on your journey!! Hopefully we'll be band buddies very soon! :)

That schedule doesn't sound too bad. I had to have 2 appointments with the psychiatrist, 2 with the nutritionist. I had to have a bone density test, a mammogram, a pregnancy test, blood work, a chest X-ray, an EKG, an H-pylori test and most of them were separate appointments. It was crazy.

I actually just finished that whirlwind of appointments. My first appointment at True Results was on May 21st, and I finally got my approval on July 16th. I had to see the nutritionist and psychologist; do an EKG, pulmonary function test, and blood work; print out six months of diet journals; and see a hematologist. I was starting to think I lived at the doctor's office.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
