missjess 0 Posted July 1, 2007 I was banded 6-26-07 felt great since but yesterday I woke up feeling HORRIBLE checked my temp 103.1 really nauseated & severe diarrhea (the kind that you can't get off the toilet for 5 min) the Dr mentioned my Spleen was enlarged & to have it checked out when I got home so im waiting till tomorrow to get in but as for now what in the world could be wrong? My gallbladder is already removed so I know its not that. My temp broke at midnight & its stayed in between 98-100 since as long as I keep tylenol in me & I've been taking immodium so I can go an hour or 2 between bathroom trips. The only good thing is im down 20lbs lol but im tired of bein on the toilet! Thanks in advance! ~Jess
Elisabethsew 50 Posted July 1, 2007 You need to call your MD ASAP and be checked out. Infection is what comes to mind with a temp that high (I'm an RN) and having the type of diarrhea you describe could quickly lead to dehydration. You need to have some blood work done to determine the cause of your symptoms.
travelgirl 3 Posted July 1, 2007 You need to be VERY vigilant to stay hydrated. Keep us updated on how you're doing! You're in myprayers.
WASaBubbleButt 41 Posted July 2, 2007 Call your doc, or go to an ER. Between possible infection and being dehydrated, this could be of concern.
missjess 0 Posted July 2, 2007 Im keeping hydrated & not showing any signs of dehydration (im a nurse so know what to watch for).....my dr is in mexico so its not like I can just drive to the office so to speak (& im for sure going to my reg dr tomorrow since Dr Ortiz said my spleen was enlarged & to get it checked out).....I just wanted to know if anyone had experienced this or knew what it could be from? valzie 0 Posted July 2, 2007 It sounds like an infection since the fever is soooo high. As a nurse you know 103 for an adult is not that good. If you continue with the diarreha I would go to the emergency room. I am really concerned for you!
WASaBubbleButt 41 Posted July 2, 2007 Did you actually see your pre op labs for yourself?
mattintosh 0 Posted July 2, 2007 I agree, infection . If you had aspirated some food particles in your sleep this would cause infection. diarrhea? Did you drink or eat anything outside the hospital while in Mx? I once got a severe infection, chills all at once. Got a serious shot ouch did that hurt. Went home and slept for a whole day then all was good. Do you need some numbers to call? Making me concerned here. Matt
missjess 0 Posted July 3, 2007 Ok here's my lil update: I went to my family dr today he did a cbc everything looks great! white blood count is a 6 so perfect! He figures the diarrhea is from the liquid diet & not sure where the fever came from (maybe something I ate, broth, in mexico?) but if it comes back im to go straight back in! He ordered a CT scan for my spleen & said they will also check the band while there to make sure everything is ok but where my cbc is fine hes sure it has nothing to do with the band! So now I wait for the hospital to call for the scan Thanks for "listening"! ~Jess

cyndilou29 0 Posted July 6, 2007 I'm so happy to hear you are feeling ok. That fever thing was making me nervous. I didn't have a fever but I had the other problem. I felt like I didn't leave the bathroom for almost 3 days. My doctor's explanation? liquid in=Liquid out. He said it happens in about 10% of the people he bands. Keep us updated. I hope you continue to do well
