1 night. Barely 24 hours from surgery time

My surgeon's office told patients to prepare for 2 nights. However I think they're practice might be changing towards only 1 night. DH had to prepay a 2 night copay for his surgery in June, and a month later I only had to prepay for a 1 night copayment for mine. Personally I would have rather been there two nights as I found myself in the ER on day 3.

In the bariatric classes, they tell you that you will be in one night but I earned myself an extra night because I wasn't able to drink enough Water. So I was there two nights.

I was done as an out-patient. If you're relatively low risk, one night should be fine.

My surgeon told me there was an 80% chance I'd only be there one night. I had a lot of pain and nausea, and I wasn't ready to go home the day after surgery, so they kept me another night. By day 3, I went home feeling a lot better (so 2 nights in the hospital).

Thanks everyone! I am hoping that I will be feeling better in one day. I tend to have a hard time waking up from anesthesia and it usually takes me an entire day to feel normal just from that. Fingers crossed that I will be ready to go home on Saturday. Thanks!

One night for me! band to sleeve revision. had my Lap Band for 12 years!

I also feel like I can't wake up from surgery. I had surgery at 1030am and finally was awake around 430pm same day, I got up walked about 20 feet and went back to the bed for a nap, that went on for quite a while, up walk a bit and right back to bed, i couldn't hold my eyes open. I finally asked for them to completely stop my pain meds, and then I was able to keep my eyes open. The next day I was up and walking much better!! Doctor came in at 11 am said you can go home and I openly said NO. I don't think I can. He gave me 2 shots, one was a steroid the other I am not sure, and he said I bet when I call back at 3pm you will be ready to go home. I thought he was nuts!!! Well guess what, I went home at 5 that day. I wanted my bed, and he was right I felt so much better! I was afraid to go home so soon and I was fine, there was no reason to be afraid, I went home , i followed directions and I was fine. My BFF had the same thing band to sleeve the year before she stayed in hospital 2 days, and she said she could have went home the next day as well.

with all that being said, I am glad i stayed 1 night. Because of the pain meds. I couldn't stay awake or listen to directions.

That is the other thing, the pain was very manageable! and I have NO pain tolerance! I am a cry baby I wont lie!

Good Luck!!

My surgeon makes all sleeve and bypass patients stay 2 nights. Lap band patients stay one night.

You get nothing by mouth day one. Day 2 you have your leak test in the morning and then get ice and Water all day. Day 3 you have to be able to keep a Protein shake down that morning in order to go home.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
