Is a catheter required for this surgery?? It sounds silly but this is in my top 10 least liked things!!

I had my Gall Bladder removed and remember the shoulder pain - it was not good! Is this going to happen again? I'm assuming it has to do with the gas they use to inflate your abdomen.... am I right?

I'm in the process of getting approval from Bbbc of Illinois.... my fingers are crossed!

misty,

yes they use a catheter and the gas but it is not bad at all it is worth everything they do to you for the out come. The weight you lose is worth it all.

Catheters are a decision made by the lead surgeon. Generally not used.

Gas pain is a referred pain often relieved by warm compress maybe a little pain meds given for your recovery time. Not dangerous or serious just standing and walking seems to help a bunch.

You should have had these kinds of questions already answered by your surgery team. Make sure they know what they are doing. Support and follow up is hard to get after banding when you are not getting educated before banding.

I didn't have a catheter. In fact, they wanted me up and moving as soon as possible. That in itself helps get the gas moving.

I'm in the process of getting approval from my insurance company..... I have yet to even have my consultation. I have attended the seminars but these questions haven't been touched on yet. Just getting feed back from the people that have went throught it at this point. Thanks though.

Not required. Gas pain in should can be helped with heat and movement like walking and standing. Usually disappears in a few days not dangerous just annoying.

no cath for me either. . .and I didn't have to do an enima the night before either. My doc had me on all liquids the day before surgery, with nothing 12 hours prior to surgery (not even water). The gas pain. . depends on the individual. I had it really bad one night (5th day post op), but that was it. Get a heating pad, and lay on your side (prop a pillow under your belly for support). . and WALK, WALK, WALK!! All of that helped me immensely!! Good luck on your journey!!!
