For those who have lost a lot quickly. ...

Recommended Posts

For those that I have seen have lost like 60 ,70 even more in a year, did you lose quick since day one? Or did it just kick in one day? I am one week post tomorrow which I know is still really really, but I'm only down 1lb. I've seen several others who are already down 10+ by now. Just wondering if this is an indication I'll be a slow loser.

I am losing fairly rapidly but I can't answer your specific question. Why? Because early out I only weighed at my doctors appointments.

Everyone loses at different rates. It depends on many factors: starting BMI, age, fitness level, etc.

The best advice I can give, that seems to work pretty well for me, is to focus on getting in your Protein and fluids, follow your surgeon/NUT's program, and stay off the scale.

I lost incredibly quickly, reaching my goal weight at 10 months post op. I've since gone on and with more effort lost an additional 15 or so pounds. I wouldn't even weigh yourself the first week or 2. You are pumped full of IV fluids in the hospital that you need to flush out, your body is still freaking out, and you are just adjusting. I remember weighing myself in the maybe end of the first week and lost very little. But after about a week and a half the weight started falling off. There definitely is an adjustment period. Hang in there!

My doctor actually told me to slow down, since January I've lost 79lbs, and since my surgery on June 10th I've lost 37 lbs, i work out very hard with weight training, so I intake lots of Protein, and very little carbs, they increased my carbs last week, but I was told I can end up very ill if I don't get my levels checked from time to time, I've always been that way, but I am being extremely careful, and I wish I would lose as slow as others on here, I think people who lose too fast tend to gain it fast also.......

I don't feel like I've lost fast but I've lost pretty consistently over the last 10 months. Just this morning, I went through my journal from the date of surgery to present. I noticed that I didn't lose that much the first week. The second week, I had a pretty strong weight loss and then week 3 - 6, I hit that 3 week stall and everything shut down. I remember at my 6 week visit, the doctor was concerned that I hadn't lost as much as they expected. From then on, my weight loss has been pretty steady.

I agree with previous posters that you have IV fluids in you and not to mention that pain meds can shut down business in the bathroom. All sorts of factors there. These early weeks are no indication of how you will lose long term.

I am a slow loser. (65 pounds in 7 months). It would be great for about two weeks with a loss of 3-5 pounds a week and then nothing for two weeks. But the overall trajectory was down, so that's all that matters to me. ;)

I took my measurements (arms, bust, waist, hips, thighs, calves) because even in a really poor weight loss month, I lose inches (as fat is lost and replaced by heavier, more compact muscle). In seven months, I've lost 10 inches off my waist alone!!

Your body is still adjusting and trying to figure out what the $@!$ just happened to it. Even if you do turn out to be a slow loser as far as pounds on the scale, take your measurements now, and then every month and you'll still probably see some impressive progress. (at least it should make you feel better when the scales seem to be your enemy!)

Drink your Water, get your Protein and try to move a bit more each day. You'll start seeing results.

I have been a slower loser lately. First few months went quickly. I am just now 10 months out and have lost 76 pounds. Went from 222 in September to 146. Haven't weighed in a couple of weeks. My first goal was 150. New goal is 135. Will make it before a year for sure. Hang in there. The weight does come off. You will be surprised how fast you have nothing to wear at all.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
