My journey has begun..

Hi! My name is Cindy. I'm a Maryland girl :) I'm 42, Wife of Dan (21 years) mom to Alex (she's 19) and Wyatt (he's 17). I have been over weight for 23 years and I finally feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I am 5'2" (on a good day) and 215 lbs. I feel that my surgery is a shameful topic that no one wants to talk about. As if wanting to get healthy with help is a bad thing. I have a slew of medical issues that makes it hard to lose weight. Not just an excuse I use..I've tried many times. I can't use diet pills because of high blood pressure, so when I came to the conclusion that this is the route I wanted to take I have been met with resistance. My husband sees as the easy way out...far from the easy way out. He has come around but I wish he wasn't so closed minded ????. My daughter went with me to the seminar and she understands what I am going to go through. I'm beginning month 3 of the 6. Looking at January for the surgery.

Stay the course. You'll be so glad you did. A lot of your medical issues May go away. Mine did. I was diabetic taking insulin shots. No more. Hopefully your husband will be more supportive. This is not easy. It's a total lifestyle change. One that you will get used to & embrace. The first few months are the hardest. You'll question if you did the right thing. It gets easier. You'll realize it's the best thing you ever did for yourself. I'm 8 months post op & have lost 125 lbs. I have 85 more to go. Pay attention to what the Nutritionist & Doctor tell you to do. Welcome to the new you

Thank you! I keep imagining next summer and all the things I will be able to do :). That keeps me going. My Nut. Is very sweet but I don't see her again till November for my pre op discussion. The program I am in has monthly meetings so the surgeon and staff seems to be in constant contact with me which is nice :)

I'm sorry you don't have the support of some of your family. But stay true to your resolve to get healthy. Good luck!

My husband approved of the surgery in the very beginning of the process. I told my family, but only after I had a scheduled surgery date. They were very good with the idea. I didn't tell my co-workers until after the fact, and then only a couple of them; I only said I was having elective surgery, and I was back to work on the Monday after my Thursday surgery. Now pretty much everyone knows, and I try to only talk about if someone asks. I am fortunate enough to not have any "food pushers" in my life. However, my daughter is 10 and I could not have kept it from her, she's way too observant. I only gave her details as she asked about them and I was very honest.

Wishing you the best of luck with everything!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
