Almond Milk

Recommended Posts

What are the benefits of Almond milk?

I am not lactose intolerant so I typically do NF Fair Life milk when I have milk (used to to regular NF but just recently switched).

I know there is more sugar in cow's milk from the lactose, but SO much more Protein I have always made that choice.

Other than being lower carb and good for lactose intolerance, what does almond milk offer? I am game go try it if there's a good reason!

For me, it's not so much the lower carb factor as it is the lower sugar. Not just because of trying to stick with my eating guidelines but because too much sugar makes me nauseated. Plus, I've always loved milk that is rich and creamy and almond or almond coconut blend really is.

I went with almond milk during liquid pre-op for my shakes because I found out I had a lactose sensitivity to regular milk. For me, that lactose sensitivity was the main reason I went with almond milk. I should have considered Lactaid too, mostly because it has more Protein than than almond milk.

I totally get those reasons, seems like regular milk wouldn't agree with either of you.

Anyone do it by choice for nutritional reasons? I thought I would try it and then saw it only had one gram of Protein per cup and honestly was quite surprised given its popularity here!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
