They say it's reaction to quick weight loss and lack of nutrition. I take Biotin to try to help. I haven't had much but I am just shy of two months out. Doc says 3 months is when it hits. I cut off my long hair so hopefully it won't be noticeable.

Hair loss isn't just caused by wls, it can actually be anything traumatic that has happened to your body. Such as, a car accident or child birth. I was researching this earlier and came across a members post from 2010. She said she didn't suffer from hair loss...she took 10,000mcg of Biotin a day and also used a product called kitoko oil and kept up with her Protein. She also said she colors her hair so it was chemically damaged and still didn't lose any. I hope this helps :)

I was told Biotin only helps with regrowth, having said that I take it. 3-6 months is supposedly the hair falling out main time and I just completed month 6 and yes, my hair started falling out right at about 3 months. At 6 months its still falling steadily. I think its really bad some days and others not as bad. Having said all that, I'm lucky I have thick hair. Good luck to those of you with thin hair. If I went bald this surgery would still be worth it. I'd get a haircut, hair piece or wig if I needed it. Good luck to all of you. My hair means a lot to me too and I was scared too. Now that I'm in the middle of it. ..I just can't wait for it to stop. Oh I get my Protein in everyday but could do better on Vitamins. Hope this helps and doesn't discourage anyone:-)

I get it every time I undergo general anesthesia--gall bladder, kidney stone removal, wrist surgery, WLS...waiting for it now post plastics. Usually hits me four months post op. They say it's all the hair that's in the telophase stage of growth dies and it takes that long for it to fall out. I'm sure it can be complicated by nutritional issues. I took tons of Biotin and didn't seem to help me out any sadly.

I am 4 months out and have been shedding like crazy!! Seriously, hand fulls of my hair fall out!! Thankfully I have extra thick hair but it is getting thinner! I have started taking Biotin to help with the re-growth rate. Like others have said...the weight loss is worth it. 58 pounds in 4 months is worth it to me and I'm just dealing with the temporary Hair loss.< /p>

I am about 4 1/2 months out and I am also losing a lot of hair. It has also gone from being thick to really thin. I also started taking Biotin and have not seen much of a change. I almost hate to wash my hair more than 3 times a week because when I do it comes out in clumps. Hopefully in time it gets better.

I had sleeve surgery in October 2014 and I started losing my hair in February. Hair loss continued through May. My hairdresser suggested using Rogaine, the hair mousse. I've ALWAYS had thin hair my whole life. I've actually got thick hair now, thicker than ever. I highly recommend using Rogaine. I'm still using it! Get the generic if you can - much cheaper and it's the same product.

It's temporary. It'll grow back. You'll probably the only person who even notices it's a little thinner.

Jeez!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
